Date: 2007-07-15 01:06 am (UTC)Currently enjoying Between Folly and Love by Josey -- good meaty story, very well written, and my favourite genre -- ER leading (I'm confident) to emotional first time.

Date: 2007-07-15 01:23 am (UTC)So, I am very interested in what everyone is reading, as well as what they would recommend. And, overall, how did they find themselves here and interested in The Professionals.
What do members consider Pros staples and must reads? (Should I use this response as a new post?)
And, thanks for reminding me! One of my fave Pros story is 'There's An Old Mill...' by O Yardley. I want to read that again.
Um... /ramble.

Date: 2007-07-15 01:42 am (UTC)Hmm must-reads in Pros. I would say anything by O Yardley and Sebastian is a must - well, early Sebastian anyway. All Sally Fell's stuff is fabulous too. All Georgina Kirrin's work.
Professional Dreamer by Pamela Rose; Trick of the Trade by Melanie Athene; A Chat With Father by Anne Higgins; Fly On The Wall by Lezlie Conch; Birdwatchers Guide to Cornish Ghosts, Cider with Bodie, Join The Queue, The Victorian Kitchen Gardener - all by Lizzie.
Think that might be enough to be going along with :-)))) Hope you like my reccs, anyway. But it's very subjective depending on what your tastes are.

Hurrah - you're here in Pros! *g*
These sound like ace questions for a new post to me, too, rather than just getting tangled up in the what're-people-reading post, where people might miss them. Not sure we've actually had a general intro to people like that here at ci5hq... D'you fancy asking again in it's very own post?

Date: 2007-07-15 11:20 am (UTC)I liked the LoM/Pros crossover, but I've not seen LoM yet, so I didn't get that side of it as much as other people probably did...
Welcome to Pros!

Date: 2007-07-15 03:40 am (UTC)I'm reading Jane's "Affairs of the Heart" excruciatingly slowly, maybe 3 or 4 pages a night because it's all I can take *g*. But I got the zine, so...
'Never Far Apart' - I've read "Raymond's Joy" about 3 times, because it's such a wonderful story. And I'm going to re-read "Far Shore" next, because I have such mixed feelings about it, try to tease out which bits work for me & which don't, and why.

Date: 2007-07-15 11:25 am (UTC)I'll be very interested to hear what you think of Far Shore in more detail - that's one that conflicts me in some ways too (as you know!) I need to read it again too, it's just that I'm put off from the first page to some extent, and then the angst just tumbles right over the top into unreality for me...
As for Jane... yeah! It's odd, cos there's some of hers that I quite enjoy, but others I just want to rip my eyes out... Can't remember Affairs of the Heart offhand, but if you've gotta read it so slowly I suspect it's in the latter category!

Date: 2007-07-15 01:05 pm (UTC)Yeah, BDSM is a kink of mine, so I'll take rec's for consensual stories with B/D only, intensity is not a problem. So how do I go from mush and romance, which I love, to BDSM, my second fav type of story? Go figure.

Date: 2007-07-15 02:56 pm (UTC)Kitty Fisher's 'Monopoly' was one of my first reads, and remains a favourite. Try her AU 'The Alchemist's Measure' as well (the sequel is also BDSM, but I think the storyline is weaker at the end).
Others:
- And Learn to Fly by Blackbird
- Deadly Nightshade by Gloria Lancaster
- There's No Place by Josey
- M Fae's Snowbound duo of stories, although one of them is non-con.
I think the one I like most is Object of Desire by Courtney Gray, although the BDSM is secondary to the relationship development (it's not listed as BDSM on any story lists AFAIK).

So... what's everyone reading?
Been reading 'Redemption' for the past few days and it's got me by the scruff of the neck. Really putting me through the wringer, but I'm not complaining cos I'm loving every minute of it.

Date: 2007-07-16 10:52 am (UTC)I guess I am just reading what new things crop up online at the moment, usually through the DIALJ challenges and the safehouse, rather than the fic archives. Oh, and enjoying Cras Tibi - asymphototropic's WIP *g*

Date: 2007-07-17 10:23 pm (UTC)I like the premise of Cras Tibi, though I can't quite get my head around the quasi-military characterisation of CI5 and the lads - Bodie in particular. I've never heard them talk like that ever! But I do rather like Doyle not-speaking, cos it's so unlike him that it's positively intriguing! I'm waiting to find out what happens next too!

The CD's ace, isn't it... How are you going about it? I have phases where I decide to start alphabetically, then try and go through the numbered disks, then just click away randomly... All of which means I've still not read it all, but it's getting harder to find what I haven't read!
