Yesterday: I saw this picture in the Bird Photographer of the Year shortlist, and it made me smile alot and think of Pros. I bet there are people out there who know why... *g* Hover over it to identify the birds.

Solution: The picture immediately made me think of Island Innocents by Glen Fiddich!

I so wish this was online so that more people could read it. I hope the author will forgive me for quoting a lengthy excerpt here, but it's just so ace. The lads have been sent to the Isles of Scilly on a job, and Doyle is sitting on the beach, on observation duty, while Bodie goes off to contact the HQ. Of course there are other people on the beach:

I say...sanderling! )

Honourable mentions to [livejournal.com profile] macklingirl who suggested A Birdwatcher's Guide to Cornish Ghosts, and to [livejournal.com profile] kiwisue who suggested Private Madness Public Danger (Benny talking about "birds with very few feathers") or "Sand(erlings)...Spain...Torremolinos is in Spain...Doyle reading "Sands of Torremolinos" by Juan Goytisolo in TOS [Ojuka]"! There might have to be bonus points for that suggestion, actually! *g*

There's been a lovely run of Pros in my flist since the weekend - new fic I adored, a new vid I adored, ProsWatch posts and I even managed a PhotoShoot Snap post too! Anyway, I've decided I shall try and help keep up the momentum by posting here to rec some Pros stories as well!

I've been reading stories by Glen Fiddich lately - or at least the ones that I currently have printed out at home. I've also just done a quick search of the ProsLib files, and found that instead of the three print-outs I have at home, there are six stories by her - which I probably have read before, especially as I remember one of them now, but can't remember at all...

Anyway, I really like her stories - Island Innocents is one of my favourite zines of all time! I've also just re-read By Invitation Only, which is was fun (it's all to do with a very big bed that Bodie in particular covets... *g*) and I'm wishing I'd brought my ProsLib CD so that I could re-read her others over lunch!

She tends to write case stories surrounded by gentle slash, and they always put me in a good mood... Oh, and there are wee pictures to illustrate Island Innocents, and The House that George Built is a story (okay, nursery rhyme) in brilliant pictures too - she's clearly an author and artist!

As far as I know, her stories are:

1) By Invitation Only
2) The House that George Built (a story in pictures - I love it!)
3) Island Innocents
4) Job Lot
5) Mission: Professional (a multi-fandom story that completely loses me as I only know 2 of the fandoms - and I'm not keen on ST!)
6) Paris - or Bust!
7) Playing Possum

I'm pretty sure she's a UK writer, and I suspect she was writing quite some time ago and sadly isn't now... but I could be wrong! She could still be writing for the Paper Circuit, and there might be dozens more stories to discover... but I suspect not, sadly...

Has anyone else read any of Glen Fiddich's stories? Do you like them? Do you know of any that aren't in the list above (ie, not on the ProsLib CD)? I'd love to find them, if so...

ETA - apparently I'm behind myself, I've already got the seven Glen Fiddich stories up at palelyloitering.com - and rats, it looks like Paris or Bust is a sequel to Mission:Professional...

ETA again - and Job Lot is described in ProsLib as being her very first Hatstand - in August 1983!

It's ever so quiet around here... *tiptoes in*... Maybe I'd better...

Title: Island Innocents
Author: Glen Fiddich?
Link to story: Tragically, not online.
Zine: Island Innocents
Review:

I read this zine only because [livejournal.com profile] msmoat included it in her list of zine fic recs. I'd been mildly curious before that, because no one seemed to say much about it, and I assumed it was just a so-so fic.

I was really wrong. )
