25th January - Burns Night Recs?
Jan. 25th, 2009 09:23 amIt's wet and miserable where I am, but tonight is Burns Night so I thought I'd read Scottish-based fic today - and add it to the www.palelyloitering.com front page too. Only... I'm rubbish when it comes to thinking of specifics like this, so - has anyone got any Scotland-based Pros fic they'd recommend? Help!

ETA - so far I have "Brigadoon" by PFL, "Alone and Palely Loitering" by M.Fae Glasgow, and "Never the Words They Say" by someone or other. I've been resisting adding "The High Road" by M.Fae Glasgow (although I do love it) cos its a New Year one, but then it is in Scotland, so... *bungs it on* Oh, and "The Drowning Plains" by Bistokidsfan!
But there must be more!

Hail Scotland
Date: 2009-01-25 11:05 am (UTC)Of course it's not a contradiction that I love Gordon Jackson! By the way, where did you find this lovely picture and which show or event was it taken from?
I'd add that I'd like to read Cowley's centered fics, for my favourite episodes are the ones with heavy focus on Cowley.

Date: 2009-01-25 11:06 am (UTC)ETA - ah, I'm told my comment has been deleted too (though I can still see it!), so here is what I said:
Scotland is a rather fab place to visit - I've not been for years, either, and I've rather been hankering after a trip... One day!
I have to confess that I didn't save the website the pic comes from - I'm sorry! It was a random trawl for Gordon Jackson under images, looking for one that looked more "traditionally Scottish" than the others...
If you have any Scotland-centred fics you'd like to suggest, that'd be brilliant! (Perhaps one day we'll do a Cowley-centred fic request too!)

Why this must be read:
This short and amusing little story has its own, legitimate place in my Cowley's anthology; this time the Old Man is alone, I mean without his favourite team but actually with an old friend of him, and spending a well earned week of rest and vacation in a lodge not far from a loch, the Loch Ness, as it seems, though it is not named in the text.
Wandering alone along the banks of the Loch Ness may lead you to all sorts of strange encounters and... No, no, it's not exactly what you were thinking...though ?
The piece is too short to allow much more comments or quotations; I gave you all you need to know. You may be surprised, however. There is a very nice twist at the end; well, actually there are two!

Although it should be, the zine timed out ages ago... *sighs for zine stories that are never put online*
Oh, and Shoshanna's gorgeous Sule Skerrie (http://www.thecircuitarchive.com/tca/archive/8/suleskerrie.html) too!
ETA - sorry about the edits, kept cocking up the code!
