Rec Challenge - Not Very Romantic Recs

So, there've been some requests floating around for Pros fic recs, and one of the things I've heard requested is slash Prosfic that's not particularly romantic... which sounds a bit odd in some ways, because our lads being together at all is pretty romantic by some definitions... okay, by mine. *g* But thinking about it made me curious, and since it's been quiet over here as much as anywhere... anyone up for a challenge?

Could we have some recs for non-romantic Pros slash stories posted, please? And if nothing else it'll be interesting to see all the different definitions of non-romantic too! Cos we know the lads are truly, madly, deeply... *g*

Oh please do rec it! You know, it's easy to get posting access, all you have to do is join the comm rather than just watching it! At the top of the User Info page you'll see this:

Ack! Noooooooooooooooooooooo! Definitely not moderated. In fact it was set up specifically to be an unmoderated (within reason - don't flame people!) Pros livejournal community, where members could post anything they wanted about Pros without being told off etc.

Quite some time ago now, the_safehouse had rules against things like discussion, reccing fic and pimping other communities. Some of us wanted to discuss, rec and pimp, and thus ci5hq was born!

Under the same moderator that made the prohibitive rules at the_safehouse, that comm was moderating membership and screening posts and replies. ci5hq has never done that! The only "control" we have is that we'd prefer people to be members if they want to post to the comm, to avoid non-Pros type spamming of the community, if possible. And people can still comment without being members, or without even having livejournals.

All the above said, the situation at the_safehouse is now changing, as it is basically working properly under its "new" (and lovely) moderator now. I believe she is changing alot of things and getting it all straightened out and sorted. The non-approval was not down to her in the first place, but to someone who's no longer around Pros fandom.

And there - a bit of the darker side of Pros lj fandom, but one that has been sorted, as Pros fans are wont to do, I think, when they suss what's going on...

So join ci5hq at your leisure! Apply again to the_safehouse! All should be good, wherever you take your Pros-y self these days! *g*

ci5hq = empty_mirrors, przed and byslantedlight (I am, clearly, the noisy one. *g*)

the_safehouse = londonronnie. There is another person's name on the comm also as maintainer/mod, but as far as I know it's londonronnie who's now the active mod.

Actually everyone I've mentioned about are maintainers of the comms rather than mods - "moderators" in lj-speak have more limited control. It's just that people generally know the term "mod" to mean what lj means "maintainer" to mean. I think. *g*

Lol - I'm afraid I just did! Not much of a darker side I know, but all the same... *g* There was a mod at the_safehouse who put up alot of rules and regulations, screening and controlling etc, and so some people started another comm without any of those things! The person has pretty much left Pros now (as far as I know), which is a shame in some ways, cos she did some very good things too. But people is people.

I mean there've been faffs that hit places like metafandom and fandomwank, that involved Pros people, and there've been various people who've flounced out of fandom cos they said people were being mean to them (of which I've seen little evidence, in Pros. Admittedly I don't know many any other fandoms, but I think the vast majority of Pros people are pretty decent, pretty non-prima donna-ish, and happy to just get on with enjoying things... At least the ones I know. *g*

Thanks for the quick answer! Not easy to read between the lines or even to understand everything as a newbie and as a 'foreign-languager'!

That's another problem! For I don't like stories with too much crime, case, intrigue...
I like 'relationship-y' stories(in any combination!) Where is the border to romance?

Yes! Exactly the question! I expect it's different for everyone... For example, what other people might call "romance" I suspect I call soppiness, and what I call romance? Who knows!

I prefer relationship stories too! But I think a story can still be a relationship-based story, rather than a case-based story, and not be considered "romantic". I'd say the fic I recced earlier today, "Caravans" by Mandragora is a good example of that. I think it's more an atmosphere, perhaps, for me. In "Caravans", although it's very introspective on Doyle's part, he always seems to be in character as I saw him in the shows. He's not saying all the stuff out loud - and he's trying to hide what he's thinking. In the shows we never really know what they're thinking, which is why there's so much potential for writing fic. So for me a story is too "soppy" if the lads talk too much about things that they don't in the show! They don't bare their hearts in the show, so that's what I don't like to see in fic!

What about you - where do you think the border is?!

The border?
Maybe that "candlelight" is a very good indicator.
As soon as it's the daily work routine, romance changes into a good teamwork, with no more than signs of affection - like the episodes!

Fantastic idea, blokey-love is the only way to go in Pros..*g* And I notice there are a already a couple of recs for fics I don't know, so yay!!
