Well, I seem to have inspired one of my friends to watch Pros. He started at the end of last week and has been making rapid progress, so that now he is most of the way through series 2. Today we were talking about Pros fic and he said he might be interested in some recs. (Wanting to read my Big Bang fic was one of his reasons for checking out the series in the first place. He is a good friend.) Anyway, following that conversation, I went through my collection and made him a little bouquet of fics.

Here they are:

Quis Custodiet by Sarah K (100 words), a drabble episode tag
A Hill of Beans by [livejournal.com profile] fiorenza_a (4,239 words), a backstory fic

Angels Unaware by [livejournal.com profile] bardicvoice (29,702 words), a case fic
Easy Prey by [livejournal.com profile] jaicen5 (43,233 words), a sort-of case fic

These Layers of Charnel Air by Slantedlight ([livejournal.com profile] byslantedlight) (16,835 words), a character driven slash fic
Babylon is Fallen by PR_Zed ([livejournal.com profile] przed) (29,990 words), an AU crossover

The first four are gen or het, the last two slash. My friend is not anti-slash and acknowledges the show's potential in that area, but I don't know if that type of fic interests him. Still, I was trying to cover the range of Pros fic.

If you were creating such a bouquet of fics for a friend new to the fandom, what would you include?

Cool of you to help a newbie! We like Pros fen. I do have a list of Pros gen stories that I made up a few years ago on request. I haven't read any but finding gen (not clue if they're het) isn't always easy.

It's hard for me to rec. There are many, many great stories but I only read slash and I skip many genres. I recently tried to read what I had considered a fav 10 years ago and was incredibly frustrated with the characterisation this time around. Here's hoping you get a good list going. I'll think on it for a bit though.

What a nice idea. I'll read any story you write, but usually gen isn't my thing. If I had to rec gen, Vickie L Martin is known for good case stories.

If I'm trying to pimp using fic, I'd first ask what kind of stories are favored. I don't expect folks to like the same as me, but I would try to rec what might be cat-nip to them.

I love the idea of a bouquet of fic!

Hmmn, what would I put in such a bouquet...? Well, it would normally be all slash, just because those tend to be my favourite fics — that's where I want to see the lads, in love... So hard though, so many good fics out there! Assuming shorter stories are better for new readers, though most of my favourites are much longer:
1. Voice Over by Elizabeth O'Shea
2. Et in Italia Ego... by Sebastian
3. Gift of the Moggy by The Hag
4. From Here to Eternity by Ginny and Hestia
5. Facets ii: Stolen Moments by Maggie Hall

Gen-wise... harder, cos I don't read much, but I have some favourites:
Frere Jacque by Dinah
Master Plan by Laura
To Derby by Laura
A Pugnacious Angel by Gil Hale
Bastard in Black by Laura

(PS - very chuffed you'd suggest one of mine, thank you! *g*)
