Because sometimes, when the longest day of the year is full of sweeping rain and greyness, you just need something a bit lighter... And don't be put off by the mention of elves, it's not... quite... what you think
Title: An Elf By Any Other Name and Lighter Footed Than The Fox
Author: Arduinna Finn
Link to story: at Circuit Archive or at The Hatstand (follow the link from the first part to its sequel).
Zine: Living Pros, Bovinity Press, 1999
Permission to archive the rec/review at Palely Loitering: Yes
Short review: Review here at Rec50 and
Two fics, the first very short, that only together make up the whole story – so this isn’t really cheating, right? And this has to be fluff because one of them is… an elf. Except that this is the best elf story I’ve ever read, and if he were going to be an elf – this is just the kind he would be. Quite a knack that, turning one of these lads into a believable elf. The first part is cute, the second part is brilliantly funny.

Date: 2006-06-22 08:40 am (UTC)And Arduinna's Chrestomathy remains one of my all-time favourite 'how-to' sites for fanfic writers. The lady does it with humour, and I like humour.
*mumble* would insert the link but have screwed up my windows. Google Chrestomathy and Arduinna and up it comes.
And, um, pardon my ignorance but I've not had a lot of playtime lately. What / where is Palely Loitering, pretty please?

Date: 2006-06-22 08:49 am (UTC)Palelyloitering is the zine review website that I've nearly got up and running... The long story is that when I first started looking into zines I couldn't for the life of me find much information about specific titles, or what kind of writing was in which zine and so on, and so I started gathering together what I could find online into one place, so that if a second-hand zine came up for sale I could see something about it. But then I had to figure out how to organize the info, and not long after that I realised that what I was really doing was organizing it into website-type format, and then I thought... well, I really should learn more about this, and maybe this would be interesting to other people, so I started really figuring out how to turn it into a website. Then CI5hq came along and I asked if I could link people's reviews/recs to palelyloitering, so they kindly included it in the review header for me - now all I have to do is launch the thing! I'm nearly there... Just a couple of webby-type things left to figure out... *g*
