The next great Pros story!
Aug. 12th, 2021 01:04 pmIt was great to chat and listen to chat about our lads last weekend at
bistocon, and to see the list of everyone's story recs from the con panel this morning.
It made me think about all the Pros stories out there, and all the new ideas that have been twisted into Pros fic over the years (like wingfic!), and all the potential stories still out there, and it made me wonder... *g*
What Pros stories would you like to see? What do you like reading about best/still want more of/have never imagined you might get to read but want to? *g*
(And you never know, maybe it will turn out that your wished-for story is already out there somewhere, and someone can let you know... *g*)

Date: 2021-08-14 11:37 am (UTC)I'd forgotten about your daemon fic wishes! Reading HDM is still on my to-do list. I started it years ago when Northern Lights first came out, but fell off when we had to wait so long for each new book, and never got back to it. I've not even seen the films yet! I'd be interested to see your manips, to help get an idea of where you're coming from with this one, since I'm not familiar with the source material yet. *g*
I guess the various gen-based fics are probably harder for writers to fulfil for you, because Pros is so predominantly a slash fandom — and of course the gen group people will probably avoid writing them because they're so firmly gen, although you never know...

Date: 2021-08-14 02:15 pm (UTC)Yes, the latter two types of fic that I described aren't likely to appeal to slash-only or gen-only writers, I think. I do run into examples from time to time, though. Most of the ones I'm aware of come from Man from U.N.C.L.E. fandom. I'm not sure if that's because I have read most widely in that fandom or because it is more hospitable to these types of fics. I do think MFU fandom is less segregated than Pros, with more writers who write both slash and gen and more readers who like to read both. I posted an MFU fic of the ambiguous relationship type earlier this year, and it went down well.

Date: 2021-08-14 11:32 am (UTC)I have a fondness for LGBTQ-themed non-slash, in which one (or more) of the canon characters is LGBTQ, but there is no slash pairing.* There are many possibilities there, but most of the available fics are coming-out stories—Hero A is gay or bisexual, and comes out to Hero B, who is straight, with some kind of result.
I also love stories in which the leads end up in a relationship that falls somewhere between what is considered normal for friends and what is expected for lovers.** These have to be written with care, though, or they will simply read as gen stories that wanted to be slash.
* Camouflage by lezlies is a Pros fic that comes very close to fitting this description.
** For anyone who reads MFU fics, I recommend
