Ritual Cleansing by Meg Lewtan
Feb. 21st, 2021 11:40 amI was looking out a fic for someone this morning, and decided I'd have a go at reading it myself - it's on the ProsLib dvd, but being my paper-y self I'm reading it in The Hatstand Express 8: Ritual Cleansing by Meg Lewtan.
It was apparently based on a storyline suggested by "JT", and I can only imagine that it came up as part of a very cool Pros-y conversation!
(Slight diversion - THE is a "letterzine", where people wrote letters in response to the previous edition etc. I've just come across a reply to a conversation apparently about whether zines would ever make the paper circuit obsolete... I guess we've been through internet lists and livejournal since then too - we're still here obviously, but lj's nowhere near as active as it used to be either: the "next thing" is moving on like a juggernaut, whatever that next thing is... individualism? A03? Hmmn...)
The story starts with Doyle in bed listening to Bodie come home at 5am in the morning and have a shower, which we're told is a ritual for him - and there's our set up. The lads clearly live together, but what's Bodie doing out all night that he needs to shower from, which would upset Doyle enough that he's clearly wide awake listening out for him..? A series of flashbacks is used to explain...
The story's a bit lads-talk-about-everything for my liking/belief in them, but I did keep reading to find out what was going on - and then to find out if there was any way it could or would be resolved! *g*
There's apparently a sequel to this by Tessa Rae called "Ritual's End, which isn't currently in ProsLib, and reading a few of the letters in THE9 suggests why - it's quite a controversial idea in a fic, and one of those controversial-type endings that people can either accept or else really don't like...
If anyone else reads this, I'd love to know what you think!

Date: 2021-02-21 11:41 pm (UTC)I scanned the sequel today, only to find that it scanned as OCR rather than the image-pdf I was expecting. Which is good in fact, but means it needs alot of editing before I can send it, because the type wasn't very clear...

Date: 2021-02-23 05:16 pm (UTC)Sending so many thanks for the work you're doing on the sequel, I've waited this long so please take your time, I'm just very grateful to have the chance to see it at all however long it takes. Why are there not enough hours in the day? If there were, I would have answered this thread and put my comments on the Waiting To Fall thread by now...
