I'm finally getting back to work on the UK Paper Circuit Library folders, now that I have a home again and actual space to get them out a bit - hooray. But...
...I know all the logic says that it's right to recycle the stories that are safely in ProsLib and/or online elsewhere, and I know no one wants to borrow them any more (because I asked *g*), and I know no one wants to store them all together, especially because the paper's a bit smelly and ick, and I know all the other things I've posted about several times on here, but...but I'm wincing every time I slide a fic out of its plastic pocket and into the paper recycling bag... eep! It feels wrong! What if the whole internet dies and then we haven't got any way of getting online to get hold of the stories? I mean, I know, but then we never thought a pandemic would sweep the world again, killing millions of people and mutating fast, right? There could be a giant sunspot, and... Okay, clearly I read too much apocalyptic fiction when I was an impressionable kid, but all the same... eep!
So this is now two folders of stories that have finally gone to the great recycling bin in the... well, somewhere in Somerset, in fact. Eighty-four to go (presuming I can track down the one missing folder that's still with one of the previous Guardians).

But you're doing good!
I have a scan of 'After Justice by Shark', if you need something like that?
And I can check the others tomorrow.

Oh cool - that would save me doing it, thank you! I'm still at the same email... *g*

Date: 2021-02-14 03:01 am (UTC)I understand the Circuit Archive version of Waiting to Fall by Rob is incomplete.
If you have a paper copy of that, you might want to ask someone to compare and contrast.
I'm not aware if a complete version is available elsewhere online or has been captured in a paper zine.
no subject
Date: 2021-02-14 04:07 pm (UTC)What makes you think it's incomplete?
no subject
Date: 2021-02-14 06:44 pm (UTC)I am simply suggesting that if there is a paper copy of WTF in the records you are recycling that it would be a prudent act of conservation to have someone compare it with the version on the Circuit Archive before the paper record is irretrievably destroyed.
Any comparison would answer all speculation as to whether the Circuit Archive hosts the most complete available version.
no subject
Date: 2021-02-14 06:59 pm (UTC)If you can give me an idea where this speculation originates, then it would be much quicker for someone to check.
no subject
Date: 2021-02-14 07:07 pm (UTC)It would be quicker and simpler just to check any paper copy against the Circuit Archive copy.
If you don't want to do that, then fandom will have to live with your decision.

Date: 2021-02-14 07:36 pm (UTC)Quick and simple to ask someone to go through 600+ pages of story without evidence that there's a problem? If you have demonstrable knowledge that the story on Circuit Archive is incomplete then I'm happy to act on it - please do provide that evidence.
If you don't want to do that, then fandom will have to live with your decision.
I wasn't open to your emotional blackmail in the past, and it's not going to work this time either, so please stick with actual information/facts.

Date: 2021-02-14 09:18 pm (UTC)As the person who made the post I will reply to people who comment out of courtesy - if you don't want me to reply, then you're free not to comment.
You once told me that you wanted me to stop commenting on posts that you made to your lj - and so I did, even though you didn't give me a reason for it at the time. That's fine - but it works both ways. If you don't want me to reply to you, then all I can say is don't comment. I've never known where this is coming from, and I still don't - but it's not okay to try and make me out as the villain of the piece.

Date: 2021-02-15 06:34 pm (UTC)Oh, and you know I would love to host the whole Paper Circuit but sadly I don't have enough space for it. So I totally understand your decision and I know how hard it is for you.

Date: 2021-02-15 06:42 pm (UTC)And thanks - S was lucky enough to have a nice big house with enough room for the library, but no one else seems to have the same space! And to be fair there's no demand to run it as a library any more now that things are mostly online... but I know you'd hate throwing the paper stories away too!

Date: 2021-02-15 08:19 pm (UTC)Oh, and if there ever might be the possibility I would love to read Apprentice to a Pirat only because I like the title and would love to know what is behind it. *g*

Date: 2021-02-15 08:29 pm (UTC)Bodie yawned, his jaw cracking. Giving himself a good shake, he peered out the windscreen at the darkness. The storm was gathering and promised to be a harsh one. He had just wrapped up a case that had taken him out of London. It had turned out to be more of a boring obbo: a long time sitting around watching and waiting, followed by five minutes of running around like a mad man catching the bad guys.

Date: 2021-02-20 10:02 pm (UTC)A Calculated Risk is by Ann F.
Dark Interlude is by Felicity M. Parkinson
Ghosts — possibly the story by Frankie. Will need to check actual content.
Idle Thoughts — all I know is that it was by an American writer.

Date: 2021-02-20 11:33 pm (UTC)And if there are any authors you know who don't want specific names on the internet, please do let me know in an email - I'm always worried I might accidentally post a name against someone's wishes. I try to only include names if I find them online elsewhere, but that's not a guarantee...
There are a few fics called Ghosts, but this is the one that starts "Bodie waited, every muscle in his body tense..."

Date: 2021-02-22 12:13 pm (UTC)If you spot a story that you've been particularly looking out for, I'm happy to try and scan it sooner rather than later, for sharing, but at the moment my general plan is: sort and record the folders, recording links to an online source and/or ProsLib; then scan the non-online stories; then work out the best way of distributing them in general, assuming we've not had a bright idea about how to do it before then! *g* There's 86 folders, I work full-time+, and I'm just starting Folder 4 now. So it will take a wee while... *g*
