UK Paper Circuit Library - by file folder - File Folder 02

I'm finally getting back to work on the UK Paper Circuit Library folders, now that I have a home again and actual space to get them out a bit - hooray. But...

...I know all the logic says that it's right to recycle the stories that are safely in ProsLib and/or online elsewhere, and I know no one wants to borrow them any more (because I asked *g*), and I know no one wants to store them all together, especially because the paper's a bit smelly and ick, and I know all the other things I've posted about several times on here, but...but I'm wincing every time I slide a fic out of its plastic pocket and into the paper recycling bag... eep! It feels wrong! What if the whole internet dies and then we haven't got any way of getting online to get hold of the stories? I mean, I know, but then we never thought a pandemic would sweep the world again, killing millions of people and mutating fast, right? There could be a giant sunspot, and... Okay, clearly I read too much apocalyptic fiction when I was an impressionable kid, but all the same... eep!

So this is now two folders of stories that have finally gone to the great recycling bin in the... well, somewhere in Somerset, in fact. Eighty-four to go (presuming I can track down the one missing folder that's still with one of the previous Guardians).

Jumping in on Firlefanzine's reply too (*g*) - just to let you know that when I've sorted out the various files, I'm going to put the stories that aren't currently online in a format to send to people, and make sure that they're kept alive by readers throughout Pros! So they'll definitely get out to you and everyone who wants copies then (although I know now is always even better *g*)

Thankyou, i am trying to keep intouch and then i lose a few days and then things have moved on so thankyou for the update, i'm glad you are here though because i wanted to ask you a question, have you by any chance come upon a copy of "remember angola" yet , i would love to know that it is still out there . i know you have a huge task on your hand.

I understand the Circuit Archive version of Waiting to Fall by Rob is incomplete.

If you have a paper copy of that, you might want to ask someone to compare and contrast.

I'm not aware if a complete version is available elsewhere online or has been captured in a paper zine.

Hmmn, I don't remember anyone saying this before, though I've seen people asking about pages missing from their paper circuit copies. It's been discussed a couple of times on lj and in Pros-Lit too and nothing's come up about strange jumps in sentences/paras/plot.

What makes you think it's incomplete?

I am simply suggesting that if there is a paper copy of WTF in the records you are recycling that it would be a prudent act of conservation to have someone compare it with the version on the Circuit Archive before the paper record is irretrievably destroyed.

Any comparison would answer all speculation as to whether the Circuit Archive hosts the most complete available version.

My point is that you're the only person I'm aware of who's ever speculated about it, so I'm wondering where the speculation originated! As far as I know readers of the Circuit Archive version have always been satisfied with it, and the person who typed it is well-respected as far as the accuracy of her other publications.

If you can give me an idea where this speculation originates, then it would be much quicker for someone to check.

Quick and simple to ask someone to go through 600+ pages of story without evidence that there's a problem? If you have demonstrable knowledge that the story on Circuit Archive is incomplete then I'm happy to act on it - please do provide that evidence.

All I've done here is to ask why you think there might be a problem with the Circuit Archive copy of Waiting to Fall. You don't want to say why - okay, that's up to you, but I can't ask someone to do such a big task without a reason why. Instead of giving me a reason you've told me that "fandom will have to live with your decision", which seems unfair when there's no basis to make that decision on.

As the person who made the post I will reply to people who comment out of courtesy - if you don't want me to reply, then you're free not to comment.

You once told me that you wanted me to stop commenting on posts that you made to your lj - and so I did, even though you didn't give me a reason for it at the time. That's fine - but it works both ways. If you don't want me to reply to you, then all I can say is don't comment. I've never known where this is coming from, and I still don't - but it's not okay to try and make me out as the villain of the piece.

Just a little question. You mentioned If Looks Could Kill twice. Are there two stories with the same title? Or is it the one that's online?

Oh, and you know I would love to host the whole Paper Circuit but sadly I don't have enough space for it. So I totally understand your decision and I know how hard it is for you.

I did? Oh, I think it's the same story just that I listed it twice - once in the original list, and then noting that it was a story that didn't seem to be online/in ProsLib. Like I said though, I've only checked The Circuit Archive as the online source so far (since I'm at the older end of the library, and A03 wasn't around then). Have you seen that one online somewhere? The link would be great!

And thanks - S was lucky enough to have a nice big house with enough room for the library, but no one else seems to have the same space! And to be fair there's no demand to run it as a library any more now that things are mostly online... but I know you'd hate throwing the paper stories away too!

And if there are any authors you know who don't want specific names on the internet, please do let me know in an email - I'm always worried I might accidentally post a name against someone's wishes. I try to only include names if I find them online elsewhere, but that's not a guarantee...

Hiya - there's no definitive decision yet about format, but the stories that aren't online are definitely going to be scanned to help keep them safe, and they will be available upon request! I'm going to send ProsLib stories by authors that they have permission to archive too, but there are some authors who didn't want their fic archived anywhere like that, and some that we just don't know about yet.

If you spot a story that you've been particularly looking out for, I'm happy to try and scan it sooner rather than later, for sharing, but at the moment my general plan is: sort and record the folders, recording links to an online source and/or ProsLib; then scan the non-online stories; then work out the best way of distributing them in general, assuming we've not had a bright idea about how to do it before then! *g* There's 86 folders, I work full-time+, and I'm just starting Folder 4 now. So it will take a wee while... *g*
