Is anyone reading Pros fic at the moment? It's quiet here - and there, and there, too! It's nearly the end of August, and it's the late August bank holiday here in lads' land, so let's have a reading challenge this week! This is how to join in:

1 - Read a Pros fic!
2 - Post here to let us know what it was and whether you enjoyed it!
3 - Repeat, repeat, repeat until the end of the week! *g*

There - easy one, right? I know it's been a wee while since I read a Pros fic last - if it's the same for you, then let's see if we can get back into the habit for a wee while, because it's one of those good habits, isn't it... *g*

It's been awhile since I've read any Pros, but I'll try to get back into the habit. :-)

Wild Oats by Lois Welling

I started with this story because I remembered it a bit and wanted to read it so asked on line and Lois sent me a copy and it was as good as I remembered ..the story is of Bodie's birth and his mother Hillary is a wonderful character. Then I went on to read a huge box of circuit stories before forwarding them to a friend. So many great reads from so long ago.

I am copy-typing Wild Oats from NHB23 and Lois' rough draft and I asked her permission to post it through Frances or someone who can put it up on A03. It really is a lovely (long) story...one of my personal favourites in Pros.

Would she let it be put up for the rest of us to read? Never heard of it but very keen to read it😁

It turned out that what she sent was her rough, incomplete draft. I got a copy of No Holds Barred 23 and am typing in the missing bits (will take a while because I got fake nails for my birthday and can't really type until they grow out and I can peel them off). But, when I have finished typing it all I am sure she will allow it to be posted.

Consultation in Calydon

This came at a great time for me, because I have been transferring my favorite fics to Google Drive to save them from imminent danger of loss due to the precariousness of saving favorites in MS Edge. I, of course, got distracted from my efforts by reading, and would love to remind Pros fans of Consultation in Calydon, by Asymphototropic.
I got it from the old Circuit Archive. Seek it out and you will find therein such delights as: 1. Learn what "epiphora" means 2. Hear what the Squad talks about in the Rest Room (sample quote "Oh, swine swallop.") 3. Visit a distinguished medical consultant on the famous Harley Street (sample quotes "Indoors somewhere, someone coughed. It seemed a polite, patrician sort of sound." and "Bodie felt Sir Graehme's disapproval was aimed at an absent third party of dubious distinction."
This fic is one of my all time faves due to the skillful use of language that is enchantingly rewarding and the gorgeous quote by Swinburne that gives the title and ends the story. Happy reading!

A great story and sequel(s). I've read through every story I'd saved on my computer over the last couple of years. This set was easily one of my favorites, and I re-read them again in the last couple days.

Good idea! :-)

My last story was Professional Dreamer by Pamela Rose (https://archiveofourown.org/works/23931976). It's a very funny feelgood story, and I love especially the most unusual first meeting of Bodie and Doyle!

Funny, but just this week I thought about rereading that zine. Maybe I will!

You should!
That Dibble who thinks he's Doyle, and Philip who knows he's not Bodie, are hilarious!
Such a story shouldn't work - but it does! :-)

Am I wrong to think that you didn't mean to post the Pros fics I've read in the comment, but post it as an entry in [livejournal.com profile] ci5hq?

Love the way Doyle goes from jilted lover to curious George to Lover. It’s a really sweet piece especially with Bodie putting his foot in it (or so he thinks) in an effort to cheer Doyle up.

Just read Catcalls by Krisser15
Small Rain by Istia
Assignment in Brentby by Krisser15 and
Discovered in a Graveyard by Hgdoghouse
All in Archive if Our Own.

All are amazing stories and good reads😁👍

I liked the Catcalls with both Bodie and Doyle having to pretend to be gay while discovering they really do like each other that way. And thinking of them posing naked - well 😁😁

By the way does anyone know the name of the story where Doyle has gone undercover before as rentboy or similar role and Bodie asks him if backup has ever been late and Doyle says once. Bodie isn’t late this time. But Bodie finds out that his partner gets lost in the passion and can’t control himself. He wonders if he could ever feel that way and Doyle shows him he can. I think it ends at that point. I read it once but forgot to bookmark I and now can’t find it - can anyone please help me?

Maybe it is Fly on the Wall by Lezlie Conch?
I've just read it once... - so I'm not sure!

You should ask at Prosfinder! (https://prosfinder.livejournal.com/)

Thanks for the advice - will do and it’s not Fly on the Wall - I just checked but that’s good story to add the Prosfic recs 😁

Sorry. I'm late, but I just reread "Discovered in a Crossfire." (http://fic.aithine.org/pros-discovered-in-a-crossfire.html). I love the danger, I love the self-protective, self-revealing storytelling, and the last-minute rescue, and the ending. I'm kind of ruefully amused that Bodie does a little of that woobiefying of Doyle that other fanfic wtiters do, but I'll give him a pass given the circumstances. (But Bodie, I'll thank you to remembee in future that he's only a couple of inches shorter, OK?)

Yeah, re-readed that story recently too. It is a lovely story. Good idea and well written. It definitively wasn't the last time :-)
