Since 2010,
ci5hq has hosted an advent calendar of December/winter/Christmas/etc. themed recs, via a series of posting days for the December countdown to Christmas. A Pros fic recommendation is made, around a Christmas/December theme, every day in December, counting down to Christmas. The idea is based on the Hatstander's Pros Advent Calendar of many years ago, posted by then-
nellhowell, and much missed.
We didn't do it last year - I was all busy moving house again, which probably played into that - and I thought we might just do the Christmas fic Reading Rooms this year, but
macklingirl asked me to bring the calendar back this year, and actually we only get three fics via the Reading Room, so... I can't resist. *g* Let's see what we can do,
macklingirl, even if it's just thee and me! (But I hope it won't be!)
Anyone who'd like to can join in by choosing a day from the list below. All you need to do is post about a fic on that day to help keep us all cheerful through the dark months (or the blazing hot months *waves to Southern hemisphere and elsewhere that doesn't shiver*). Cos, you know, it's really nice to have a Pros story pop up in our list every day. *g*
Recs can be long or short, and the stories can be long or short, it doesn't matter - if you've got a favourite snowy-Christmas drabble, then it can be recced in the calendar, on a day that you choose. All we need is a link to the story (or to where it can be found), and a heading for your post, and we're away. That said, reccers can post anything they like to accompany the story recommendation - pictures, music, thoughts about the story, an invitation to discussion, the drink they'd best recommend to accompany the read... *g* Do have a look back to previous years here via the Christmas tag if you'd like to.
The only rule for the fics that are recced is that they must be Christmas/December seasonal in some way! You don't have to say what story you want to rec if you choose a day (in fact it's nice to have surprises *g*) but of course there's always the risk that someone might rec it before you do in that case, so it's up to you. Mostly - we can't have too much Pros in our flists, right? *g*
ETA - Oh, and I nearly forgot! I used to wonder if anyone would like to make a banner for the advent fic calendar... and I should ask again this year! If anyone could do something reading-y and festive-y themed to go on the posts and brighten them up, that would be so cool... *vbg*

Date: 2019-12-01 06:40 am (UTC)Sorry, I can't recommend any Christmas story, but I am looking forward to reading some here.
May we stop the Reading Room for 2019 and switching to this part? "My" story would match and I would go with it *g*

Date: 2019-12-14 12:15 am (UTC)Still, Lj messed up my edits to the link to the story; that's strange, they always work...
"(I'm so greedy!)..."
But that's a healthy kind of greediness... :-)
I'll let you know in time if I can help. I'm sorry, too, life is just being so hectic lately.
