"The Earth that They Inherit" by Shoshanna
OK, this is the kind of BDSM that makes me wonder if I will ever find a fic that lets me see what the pleasure IS in all this. I found this one really unpleasant, especially when the Dom seems to have brought in a third person to see the sub's degradation.
Yuck.
"Blood Still Cries" by Debra Hicks
Overall, this was a much more satisfying read. Post "Wild Justice," it picks up on that weird few lines about everyone else on Bodie's unit being dead. Since they weren't all killed by Billy's motorbike gang, that remains weirdly unresolved in the script, but good fic has come of it, so I don't mind. What I did mind a bit was the high pain and physical damage levels Debra evidently prefers. Anyway, the story is gen, but the partners are all about protecting each other, so I was OK with that too.
"On Being Blue" by Bistokids
They're monitoring calls into HQ for Christmas (geez, archive), and they're bored, so Doyle eats a segment of tangerine in the sexiest possible way. I've never read this before. I guess there really are no new ideas.
"Kinsmen"by Kazi
There are a lot of Irishmen in CI5. And when Doyle and Bodie put their heads together in the pub, Murphy can see they're more than partners. It's fine.
"Sensual Delight" by Python
Cowley likes to watch Doyle work out. It gives him ... ideas.
There are fandoms with dozens of pairings, several of them popular. And then there's this one, with B/D, gen, B/C, and some assorted Murphy stories. This is only the third Cowley/Doyle I have ever read, and, yeah, sorry. No.
"The Inn at the End of the Road" by Anna Parrish
Magical realism. Doyle is griefstricken and depressed because he could not save child hostages. Bodie takes him to a remote place and then the magical thing happens.
It's well written and all. I don't like that "Doyle blames himself for the invention of gunpowder" trope, but it's not like Parrish made it up. I just don't believe any of it.
"Closer Quarters" by byslantedlight
The weather's awful and the hotel room is tiny. Still ...
Nice little slice of pre-slash CI5 life.
"Rain" by P R Zed
Doyle has left CI5, and Bodie has found where he's currently living to go try to find out whether he can be talked out of it or at least made to explain.
Already-separated no-longer-Bisto-Kids stories are hard to love, but the source of Doyle's guilt and both men's reactions are clear and satisfying. I definately recommend this, but most of us have probably read it already.
"Mere Anarchy" by Rebelcat
Bodie was kidnapped and raped. Ross is worried. Doyle is gutted. Bodie says he is perfectly fine.
I like Rebelcat's writing. This is a satisfying story.
"Commemoration" by Jane Mailander (#5 in "Land-Bridge Series")
Death story. Is it weird to call it a sweet death story? It is, though.
"A Dozen Red Roses" by Elessar
Doyle's getting married. Bodie sends him roses.
I should have more feels. Is it me or the story? Or maybe its placement right after "Commemoration"?
"Missing Scene from Surfeit" by Madelein Lee
What it says on the tin, I guess. I have not read Surfeit. There's not much to this story though it does have a complete plot of its own.
(So I looked up "Surfeit" by Anne Carr, and it is a sweet little sexy weekend away. I'd read it in the other order, you know. I wasn't confused, but I think it's better that way.)
"Lost It" by Doylebaby
This is the 20-second movie trailer of fics. Bodie had something Cowley needs, but lost it. He blames Doyle but has to tell Cowley the thing is gone.
I think it's meant to be funny.
"Scrambled Eggs" by Terence (#11 in the "Building to Last" Universe)
Slice of life at Easter with a visit from Bodie's sister and her toddler Will. Sweet and fluffy.
"The Holly and the Ivy" by Anna Parrish
If I must get so many Christmas stories that it doesn't even seem random, at least this is a sweet first-time that's new to me. In an act of incredible kindness, Cowley lends them a cottage in which they spend the Christmas holiday.
"SAS Bodie" by Debs
Bodie's initiation to the SAS is to be tied down to a pool table and fucked by a half-dozen people. He has a great time. Well, at least he enjoys it.
"Twin Set" by Zoe
Peter Skellen is Bodie's actual twin, says something that makes Bodie and Doyle confess their feelings. Fade to black. It was OK.
"You Needed Me" by Cassidy Collins
Bodie is in a coma, and as per his instructions, Cowley gives Ray Bodie's last letter. I feel I should be more moved. A letter like this is hard to write, I mean for the fan writer: after all, Ray was there for all the events, so naturally they are told rather than shown. It's sweet, and all.
"Four Things Doyle Knew and One He Didn't" by Magenta Blue
I like 5 things stories. This is a nice one, though there're no surprises in it.
"Young Sinner" by James Walkswithwind
Another close shave on the job and then sex. Bodie likes it slow.
"Marooned" by Anne Carr
They're stuck on a deserted lighthouse island by someone with a grudge against Bodie. When they get back, Bodie won't talk to Doyle. Eventually they do talk, though. I liked the writing.
"The Protector," by Diva
AU in which Bodie and Doyle meet while Doyle's still in the Met, and he fell for Bodie so hard that he chases Bodie into a mercenary company, where he is protected by a Yank named Sam.
This is one of the younger-Doyle "isn't he a tough little guy" stories. Little Doyle. I'd like to not read that trope again.
"Following Orders" by Mikey
Bodie's in a coma. Cowley sends Doyle home and has a few words ... and a kiss ... with his unconscious agent.
Not my kind of thing, and unresolved to boot, but at least Doyle isn't called "little."
"Autumn Rain," by Jennifer Lyon
Told rather than shown.
"With You" by Akin
I think I don't understand what happens in this story. They shoot each other? That can't be it.
