Pros fic reviews - stories by Mab Browne
Jun. 5th, 2018 11:48 pmThere's a couple of reasons that I'm so late finishing work today (as in, I haven't yet). One of them is that I didn't really start until midday, the other is that I punctuated it all with some shots of Pros fic. I'd just finished a rather fab fic by
mab_browne, and I wanted to read more...
Nobody Knows Me at Home Anymore was a nice long read that was a mixture of case story and relationship and... no melodrama, no major car chases, just our lads' lives, perfectly them, perfectly in the right place and at the right time. I liked hearing more about the lads' backgrounds too - it's always interesting to hear about how they grew up, and became who they are. Very glad I finally caught up with this one!
Then I read this wee story, just because it was quick and I was being naughty... *g*
Two Holiday Observances was thoughtful and a wee bit funny, and again, perfectly them.
I actually betad Legacy way back in the day, and I liked it then and I still like it! In fact perhaps I like it even more now, because I'd forgotten enough of it that it was almost new again... and the lads were still very much themselves, despite some rather odd goings on at Bodie's place. *g*
Next was Duty First - the hallmark of a very fine writer indeed, this - all of my above comments within 375 words. A perfect snatch of perfectly-them lads, character, time and space. *happy sigh*
Not for Sissies
Older lads, still there, always a joy!
Ruminations is another tiny wee snippet, but when it's so purely the lads that's all I need. Well. Okay, I always want more... *g*
Lights of London City is a nice picture of the lads in London after Stake Out - and it feels very London somehow, with just the right words there to capture it. And there's something very comforting about the lads being so themselves too.
Luvvy Boy is a bit fun amongst some other snippets and drabbles.
And finally (because who needs an early night, or to stop looking at the computer screen they've been glued to for most of the day?) Pursuing Enquiries was also fun, and has me crossing my fingers that she's not finished playing with our Bodie and Doyle. Surely not! Or that she has other Pros fic lurking outside of A03 that I've not tracked down yet...
So that was my day of reading Pros fic to survive work - it's been ages since I indulged like that, and I'm not entirely sure how I missed so much of Mab's work, but it was ever so good to catch up with it! And if you've not discovered Mab yet - get thee hither with the handy links above, and read... *g*

Date: 2018-06-06 10:44 am (UTC)I checked the date I wrote Lights of London City - it was about a year after I actually visited London, so maybe that helped. :-)

Which is sad, but.... at least the Pros fic is still being read!

Or maybe I should save the long story for the flight to London!
