Prosfic Rec Advent Calendar - a Pros fic every day until Christmas!

Well, ten out of ten people who answered the poll the other day would like to see Christmas Pros fic in their flist every day between the 1st and 24th of December, so let's see if we can make that happen. *g*

If you'd like to take part by reccing a Christmas-y/seasonal Pros story (or two, or three!), then comment below to let me know what date you'd like (and what fic, if you know yet) and I will add you to the list! Then all you need to do is post about that story here at ci5hq on the day that you've chosen - as much or as little as you like, as simple or as creative as you like. The only rules are that the story you choose should be Christmas/December seasonal in some way, and that it should be Pros fic (of course!)

If you know the name of the fic you'd like to rec, then I'll put it up under a spoiler-cut-thingie (if I can get them to work - people do, it shouldn't be too hard *g*), and if you don't know yet then just let me know when you do. And if you don't know until the day you post, then that's fine too!

ETA - and we now have a full calendar! If anyone else would like to play though, I'm happy to give up one of the slots with my name on, so do still comment and request!

I'll take the 9th with Home for the Holidays (http://www.thecircuitarchive.com/tca/archive/19/homefor.html) by PR Zed and bags the 13th because I'm not superstitious about it, but I'm still pondering a story - so I'll have to get back to you on that :0)

ETA - I'm going with Jingle Balls, or Hard Times, for the 13th, by M. Fae Glasgow - I actually wanted something soft and fluffy to counterbalance Home for the Holidays, but - in the end - this rec just feels right. (not including a link at present for reasons which should become obvious when I post).

Jingle Balls is an excellent choice too - can you find a link for me please? I could do it for you, but I've got to work today, and all the lovely Pros-y things at this time of year take some sorting, too, so every few minutes adds up... It'd be really helpful if you could!

You're very welcome to link to Justacat's rec as well, but I do need you to include a direct link to the story in your own rec post as well. The whole purpose of the calendar is to point readers to fic they might enjoy for Christmas, and not everyone might want to read through two recs in order to get to the story itself. People also often want to read the story before they read the rec that's posted in the first place, to avoid spoilers.

Lol - it's not cheating to read the stories ahead of time! People do it if they want to be able to discuss the story, or post a comment about it when it goes up. Other people read them on the day (I try to, but it depends on the day!) and other people save them to read when they have time. We all have our own ways! *g*

It is nice to have the index list - I've always done one of those, because it helped me go back and find the ones I'd not read yet too!

We'll get 24, if only because I fill in the empty days where no one else has posted. It's a nice excuse that forces me to chill a bit and read - or at least think about - Pros fic. *g*

Well I had to whittle to get two - so if it is looking a bit thin I'm happy to do another, but I'm fairly confident of more takers :0)

As I suspected, as well as all the Chrismassy fic, I found loads of other stuff. Looking forward to a nice drop of port and some Prosyness when all the hustle is over.

I was in London at the beginning of the month and it already seems like months ago, January seems decades back - so much has happened...

The 21st is all yours! And since half the fun is reading Pros-y Christmas fic and sharing how much you've enjoyed it with other people, it doesn't matter at all that you're still to find the story you want to rec. *g*

In theory people can rec their own stories, just cos I wouldn't stop them (unless everyone started to do it) and it's been done before, but it's not a great idea in practice, cos it tends to come across as marketing. Obviously we'd all like people to read our own stories, but we can't objectively recommend them, cos we're so close to them. Plus, the idea of the Pros fic recs is really to enjoy reading stories ourselves and tell people how much we liked them (as above), so just reading our own fic would be a bit limiting.

I also have two fics that I love, but that revolve more around New Year's Eve/New Year, than around Christmas.

Excellent - I've added it behind a door on the calendar!

Ack - how do you post to lj?! Okay...*g* (I'm supposed to be working, so if I do this too quickly and miss something out, do let me know).

It's just like posting to your own lj, but you're at the comm instead. So - come to CI5hq, and then click on "Profile" in the left-hand column. This will take you to the CI5hq user info page.

You should see a pale blue line along the top, and about the fifth link over is "post". Click on that - it takes you to the posting window.

Choose your icon by clicking on the icon that's showing.
Type in the subject (probably indicating the advent calendar door day, and/or the title of the fic)

Then simply type your rec into the big posting box, including the title, author and link to the story nice and clear, and anything else you want to say about it underneath that.

If you have pictures you want to add, you can add them using the little icon of a picture above the posting box - just click on that.

Underneath the posting box window you should see two buttons - the first is "Preview", and if you click on that you'll see what your post will look like when it's up. I use that to make sure I've not included too many typing errors and so on!

The other button is "Post to CI5hq", and if you click that - then it'll be posted! *g* (You can edit it afterward though, if you want to change or add anything, by going into the post (clicking on the subject header, if you're looking at it in the comm or from your flist) and clicking on the little pencil icon at the top (about third along).

Hope that makes sense - and brings it all flooding back to you! *g*
