All quiet on the Pros-y poll front

Well, it's been nearly a week and I suspect everyone who is going to/is interested has answered the poll - that's 16 of us, including me. So - what did people reckon?

Reading Room - 8 people would like to play and 8 would be happy to read it all.
Dear Author - 7 people would be happy to play and 9 just want to read.
Pros Cinema -5 people would play, 8 people would watch the vids, and 1 person felt enough was enough.

Other ideas that people suggested:
- 2 people mentioned episode discussions. I've tended to assume those will happen at the_safehouse, but there's no reason why they have to, and the mods don't seem to be around to start things, so I don't see why we couldn't do that over here.

- murphybabe mentioned a Guess the Author game that she and solosundance and moonlightmead had once talked about doing, but never quite organised, and I thought that sounded fun. The idea would be that writers would submit a brief piece of Pros writing (maybe written to a theme) and people would be given the stories and a list of authors, and would try to match them up. Could be fun? *g*

I think most people are worried about time - how do we all seem to have so much less time that we once had? It ain't fair, is it... The tricky thing is balancing things so that just a couple of people are actually "committed" to something each week, and everyone else gets to read/be entertained (I hope "just reading" means "perhaps commenting sometimes" - I should have specified!)

So - how about this? What if we schedule a weekly Reading Room, and a weekly Pros Cinema, and then a once-a-month Dear Author in place of the Reading Room? Do we want to offer a weekly episode at the start of each week, and then people have the week to watch and post whenever they want? We could try - even if just a couple of people post, it would be nice to see in our flists. And I shall ask for volunteers in the comments now!

1 - If you'll volunteer to host either a Reading Room or a Pros Cinema, please either let me know a date, or I'll assign you whichever date is free next. If you can let me know what story you'd like to host for Reading Room, then we start giving people notice-to-read!

2 - If you'd like to request an author for the Dear Author Discussions, or if you'd like to offer up your own stories for a Dear Author Discussion, then let me know/volunteer in the comments. We could schedule them maybe the first Thursday each month, just so we always know what's coming up?

3 - If you'd like there to be a Weekly Pros Episode, then let me know in the comments! And if so - how do we choose? Maybe new "Mark" dvd series order, just to be slightly different (it doesn't matter if you have those dvds or not)? Or perhaps backwards, starting at the end of Series 4? That could be interesting - would we watch the lads get closer, or further apart?! *g*

4 - Oh - and shout out if you fancy playing Guess the Author too. Maybe we could arrange that for a week in October?

Happy to do either, but my Thursdays between Sept 22nd & Dec 1st are busy, so unlikely to be near Lj until late in the evening. Don't have a Reading Room story just yet - but I doubt that will be a problem for long!

Happy to be eviscerated the subject of a Dear Author - the only thing I would say is that I intend at some point to crit my own lit on my Lj - but that doesn't have to clash - I'll prob do it in order (the idea was to muse upon my developing writing as a companion project to my re-reading my history) so it'll start with Star Trek anyway.

Would be quite happy to play guess the author - I think the original idea was that folk could submit something from a WIP - so needn't write something especially. But I'm happy to play whatever the rules turn out to be.

I'm happy to participate, but can't do so on a weekly basis in my busy time of year (now through November.) There's no way, alas, I can keep up with a story and an episode every single week. (Might you consider spacing the episodes out a bit?) So, it'll be occasional!

I would, however, be happy to host a Reading Room sometime in late November.

If anyone wants my stories for Dear Author, I'm cool with that. *g*

I was part of that group for the Guess the Author idea, and in fact my little bit turned into my BB last year. *g* I would love to participate, but, again, I can't promise to do anything, even a small thing, between now and October, alas. I'm thinking others might be panicking over their BB, too, and then stories for Yuletide or DIALJ Christmas (if it happens)--not to mention the current DIALJ challenge (which I'm still hoping to finish!) Might we want to hold off on that for the dark and desperate months of January/February?

Hello! I will certainly do a Reading Room and a Pros Cinema... aaaaand I'm about to leave the country again soon! I'm away this weekend and then very much away from the next weekend for 10 days. Also, I'm very sorry, but you can count me out for October because of the BB and more work travel.

How about I do a Pros Cinema on Friday 16th September? Then I'll do a Reading Room... um... yes! I will!

For Dear Author, does it have to be the entire body of work? That's quite a lot for some people - I remember the effort you put in to get all Mead's links into one place so people could read them. Can we do a selection, or a compare and contrast? What's the general consensus of opinion?

I don't think I could keep up with that many Pros-y things in a week - sorry! - but I love and adore your enthusiasm for trying to get things going again, thank you. Why is it we've all got so much less time these days? Grrr. I'll definitely do the best I can to at least comment if nothing else, and I'd love to do a Reading Room; I ought to be able to do one of the later September dates - the 22nd or 29th?

It all sounds fantastic--particularly on the eve of me leaving for the Pros con Bistocon. I'd join in the Guess the Author game. heck, I'd try to join in for it all!
