All quiet on the Pros-y front...
Aug. 10th, 2016 12:53 pm...and then I posted a fic review on my lj this morning, and
boothros posted a BB prompt, and they both - coincidentally, I presume! - featured the art of Suzan Lovett, and that got me thinking about the various things we said we might play over here at CI5hq, so... - a poll!
We paused the Pros Reading Room way back in December last year for the Christmas Prosfic Advent Calendar, but we said we'd be back, and we also thought about Dear Author Discussions, and of course there was also Friday Night Cinema, all of which have rather fallen by the wayside. Is this just cos I've not prompted them, as comm mod, or is lj truly dead as a forum (as I've seen people claim) and we really are just fandom-ghosts wafting around without purpose...? Do we have some life in us yet? *g*
[Poll #2051588]
And as ever, all comments welcome!

Date: 2016-08-10 12:13 pm (UTC)Phhhh! There's life in the old dog yet! *grrrrrrrrr*

Date: 2016-08-10 02:24 pm (UTC)No no no! LJ is not dead! It's just sleeping off a really good lunch.
I'm guessing I'm typical of loads of people - still enthusiastic and loving the Pros-y stuff that shows up on LJ, still reading and writing... but OMG blooming RL keeps popping up and needing to be dealt with urgently. I'm almost scared of posting to my own journal these days, because I know the second I do, something will happen and I'll never get back to chat to people. Which drives me nuts. More nuts *g*
I'd love to see more, have regular/semi-regular things to join in with - I just have a horror of saying I'll play, and then having to bail. (This comment was started an hour ago... I rest my case, m'lud! *g*)

Date: 2016-08-10 07:45 pm (UTC)And I like the idea of episode discussions.

Date: 2016-08-12 03:31 pm (UTC)Episode discussions are always quite fun - I've not really suggested them here, cos I've always associated them with
ETA - sorry, I keep buggering up the code for the Safehouse!
ETA- one more try...

Date: 2016-08-10 11:01 pm (UTC)I have posted some random vids, honest m'lud!
I'm still scribbling away at various Bingo things - now I'm starting to feel better I'm trying to fit in other stuff - off line stuff - so can't always be about. And some of my Lj stuff isn't Pros - am working on a bit of errant nonsense now - case in point.
And some of my online time I spend reading not doing, 'cos really other people's stuff is so good - and I'm doing viddy/arty things too. And then I've gone and signed my Thursdays up for something - so even less time soon.
And then I've spent some time going to see fandommy things - New Star Trek Movie - and watching other fascinating things like the Rabbits of Skomer
And I still haven't replied as I should/would like to, to some folk. I find this business of earning a living really gets in the way of the important stuff...

Date: 2016-08-12 03:30 pm (UTC)From your various responses in the past, I tend to assume that you won't join in anything unless you happen to be there and fancy it (like the Bingo and vids), so not to worry, just enjoy doing what you're doing!

Date: 2016-08-12 03:18 pm (UTC)I've ticky-ed all the yes boxes (it's a Pavlovian reaction) but the caveat is, if I'm around and not snowed under. I will do my best, it's just not a very good best at times :(
A very long time ago, MoonlightMead,

Date: 2016-08-12 03:28 pm (UTC)And yeay for yeses. I tend to assume the caveat of "when I'm not snowed under" for everyone (me too *g*), so that's cool. It's just that if everyone is always snowed under, then it'd get a bit difficult.
I think I vaguely remember your Guess the Author conversation (or else one of you mentioned it elsewhere) - sounds like a fun idea to me! It shouldn't be that hard to do, either... *puts on think-y hat*... I quite like the idea of everyone writing 500 words, maybe around a specific theme for the challenge. Plus - more Pros words in the world! And... *thinks*... so, you could have a (perhaps small!) team of mods and each one take it in turn to be the mod for that particular game (and do it maybe once a month until all mods have had a go?) so that they could all join in the guessing (cos yes! Fun!) So the One Mod Who Knows would accept and post all the 500-wordses, and they'd make the poll results not-visible, so that only the mod could see the answers, and the authors who wanted to guess too would just guess their own as well, and then the mod would just not count those guesses when they were adding up for a winner, and... yeah, that sounds fun!

Date: 2016-08-13 09:43 am (UTC)My ancient creaking steam-driven system (with no speakers) plus constant interruptions are not great for vids, but I usually manage to watch them after a fashion ... though all-too-often it's days later :-(
No bright ideas at the moment, but typically of me I've been meaning to respond and say yay, great idea!!! for three days now - you posted on the 10th and it's the 13th today! ::headdesk:: - which is pretty representative of my abject failure to do what I wanted to do! But nevertheless, belatedly, yay! Great idea!!!! :-)
