I know it's not Friday night, and we all have to get up for school work in the morning, but I was looking for Pros fic over on A03, which is always a bit of a nightmare, but does occasionally throw up random (and barely connected) wonderful things - in this case, this We Didn't Start the Fire vid. It's from way back in 2012, and I haven't even read all the notes yet, but there's just something about it that sings to me... and our lads were way back when, being our lads - hurrah that they get some credit! *g*

Date: 2016-05-08 09:48 pm (UTC)I'm a bit confused as to why looking for Pros fic over on A03 is always a bit of a nightmare. Were you looking for a particular Pros fic? Because I often resort to Google for that, since the search facility isn't necessarily all that, but I find loads of things to read, watch and play over there. My only trouble lies in finding the time to read and watch them.

Date: 2016-05-08 10:20 pm (UTC)Oh I see, so if you fancied a bit of h/c it's harder to find? Or h/c with Doyle injured and Bodie caring? 'Cos I don't think they even have a box for something that specific. I know the hatstand is more searchable that way.
I get the AO3 feed on Lj, as a heads up that's something's been posted, but normally I don't do my searching for a category etc. It's not so much ignorance, more that I'm a bit of a magpie, so I don't really care about that sort of thing. And I'm happy with gen, so that probably helps. I'm a sucker for bessie mate fic.
I just think - fancy something long, or I've got twenty minutes, so something short, or I filter for vids, in case I've missed one. There's so much I still haven't read that I usually find something.
I've been playing with writing two Bingo fic lately, so all I've read this weekend is Can't Really Be Gone by Dana Austin Marsh because it said size 5K. (See what a simple soul I am?) After Bats at Noon I thought I'd give the other stuff a try, then I forgot, then you posted the covers and I remembered again. So now I've pinned it, so I don't forget again, to work through.

Date: 2016-05-08 10:39 pm (UTC)Oh, sorry, got all distracted with being puzzled - I have seen it (I've left a gushing comment on AO3 :0)). It's not one I think I'll download, it's a great song - and fits the theme perfectly, but while there are a lot of shows I recognise - and like - there were a lot I was just aware of and didn't know.
The ones I download tend to be ones just of the fandoms I read or watch. But the vid is fantastic. No doubt about that :0)

Date: 2016-05-09 10:41 am (UTC)Yes, I'm often surprised by its influence, and people remember it - but it needs off ITV 'daytime' telly. To be fair, the edits aren't butchering it, and students watch that sort of scheduling, but it needs a proper showing on Dave or Gold or something - because it's good and would still hold an audience. It's aged better than the Sweeny.
But DVD/Blu Ray may yet make a difference. People are picking up all sorts of shows from that. And the fan fic is good. It's one of the most literate fandoms. It gets the odd boost on the
But it is 'Obscure and British' when you compare it to Star Trek or NCIS. MFU, which is in the American version of the same boat, gets a boost from the NCIS fandom. And there are just more Americans.
Twenty-somethings just aren't watching George Gently the way they watch NCIS.
(ETA - the vid is a fantastic celebration of fandom - and it's great to see the lads in there because of that.)
