I recently finished Arcadia by Sineala, and it whet (wet!) my appetite for more of Bodie and Doyle out on the water
If you have ideas about how to categorize these, or about "what counts," please share! (If they live by the sea and one is a sea captain, does it count? for example.) Many of these I haven't read and some which I have read I (am ashamed but admit that I) can't remember...
The Growing List, so far:
Arcadia by Sineala
Devices and Desires by M. Fae Glasgow

Date: 2016-02-02 10:05 pm (UTC)Not specifically a rec list or my favourites, but there's a few over here at Palelyloitering (http://www.palelyloitering.com/Story%20Lists/Nautical%20Lads%20Storylist.htm), and some shipwrecked stories (http://www.palelyloitering.com/Story%20Lists/Shipwrecked%20Storylist.htm) if they count. They've not been updated for ages though. There's a Historical AU by Jane I think - erm... oh, A Madrigal (http://www.palelyloitering.com/zines/madrigal.html) I think is the one I'm thinking of, but that won't help, will it... Hah - I went and searched and searched for the Sarah K one, and then noticed that you've got it!
ETA - oh, they're not at sea, but I had Bodie telling a story about his days at sea in Just Enough Rope (http://archiveofourown.org/works/2523836) (probably doesn't count though *g*)

Date: 2016-02-03 01:27 am (UTC)I am working on adding the links.
What are your thoughts on what "counts" and what doesn't?
I am inclined to throw out a wide net, display the whole catch, and if there are land creatures in it the discoverer will hopefully let us know. If that metaphor makes sense. But it's really difficult to determine - subcategories are needed, I think. For example, Sule Skerrie and The Merman - yes, absolutely involve the lads and the sea, but not *quite*!
I am finding my memory is so full of holes! I know some stories I really haven't read, but others I know I have read, and I can't remember them just the same... :(

Date: 2016-02-03 12:14 am (UTC)1 - Raymond, hated son and sent to sea but Capt Bodie does not kill (really?) Lovers instead.
2 - Bodie, pirate and Doyle captured and they fall for each other
3 -Bodie 1st or 2nd mate and Doyle is prisnor/cargo and Bodie tries to shield him from predator seaman

Date: 2016-02-03 11:56 am (UTC)"Discovered In A Car" by Thora Arwin - no water/sea
"Brethren of the Coast" by Rebelcat - more a bath than at sea, but iirc Bodie has been out diving
"Three Bells" by PFL - I think that's the one on a canal boat, but one that's tied up somewhere and doesn't actually go sailing? On similar lines, "Paper Flowers" by Kitty Fisher has Doyle staying on a boat that's tied up and doesn't go to sea!

Date: 2016-02-12 05:36 am (UTC)The Far Shore - oh my it has been a while since I read it... Where to draw the line for lists like these? It is hard! I think that if most of the story happens aboard a boat - sailing or moored - it gets onto this list. But there are stories like this which have bits that fit in, and bits that don't... Perhaps I should start a list for "Living By the Shore"?
