Title: Cider with Bodie
Author: Lizzie

Link to story: http://www.thecircuitarchive.com/tca/archive/11/ciderwith.html

This is a real feel-good, cheery-uppy, first time story, although NOT set in the CI5 world. It is set on a Somerset farm, where Doyle is working. During lunchtime, cider is drank in varying quantities, and it's after lunch, after Doyle has had a snooze, when he feels the call of nature and gets snagged by Bodie. They watch a couple copulate and it excites them, so much so they watch each other wank.

They keep meeting until eventually Doyle fucks Bodie, a week before he is due to leave, to which he tells Bodie. They also share a first kiss, which is so sweet it makes your heart melt - literally.

He was still silent; I looked up trying to fathom his expression but his face was in shadow. Only inches separated us and I realised that it was now or never. I leaned forward and took his lips with my own. His whole body stiffened. I grasped his shoulders and hung on but he remained motionless, allowing me to continue but giving no encouragement whatsoever.

Slowly I moved to put my arms around his neck and very gently ran my fingers through his hair. Simultaneously I opened my mouth and ran my tongue the entire length of his lips. A shudder racked his body and I was suddenly enfolded in his arms, but what shocked me the most was the tiniest of child-like whimpers that came from within when he opened his own mouth to allow me admittance. I wondered, in all honesty, whether he had ever allowed another human being to touch him in this way before.

We gave ourselves up then to the most glorious exploration of each other's mouths. A noisy, wet celebration of intimacy far above anything that we had so far indulged in and clinging to each other in the dark, for all the world like two doomed lovers.

Of course, it does seem to be doomed, until Doyle hears all from his Uncle. He bumps into Bodie once again after a Sunday service at the local church. And here the tale really makes you melt. Well, it does mine anyway.

"Come on, Bodie. I'm not going to go home and just forget what it feels like to be inside you. 'Sides ... don't you want to experience the other side of that particularly enticing coin? Or is there someone else supplying that need where ever it is you've come from?"

"No. I tend not to let people get attached to me."

He was concentrating hard on picking at something on his jacket sleeve. Too hard. I silently cursed the fathers of this world who fuck up their sons, leaving fools like me to pick up the pieces.

"Casual encounters only then, is it?"

"Yeah. Well it was. Made the mistake of letting a limpet kiss me."

I hooted with laughter. "Oh Christ, it really was your first kiss, wasn't it petal?"

He looked away in embarrassment and I was instantly sorry. There are times I should be gagged to prevent damage to life and limb and this was one of them. He had the knack of making a person want to protect him from the horrors of the big, wide world. Odd that I'd not noticed this maternal streak in myself before.

"Look," I said, "there's no harm in trying is there? Anythin's got to be better than wandering from place to place, unloved and unwanted. I'm offering you some stability in your life. I might even love you if you'll let me."

I so want to post the last part that gives me butterflies in my stomach, but you really need to relish this yourself, so...

It's so beautifully written, and so sweet - yet not at all cloying or saccarine. It's gorgeous and I love it. If you do go read, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Oh! I just reread this a couple of days ago at lunch. I love everything Lizzie writes, but I agree--this one is particularly sweet. I really like the way she captures the lads. Even in AUs, she has their snark, their mutual attraction and their vulnerability down pat. I recently purchased two of the UnPros specifically because she had stories in them. I can't wait for the next installment of A Birdwatcher's Guide...

Thanks for rec'ing this.

I read this quite a while ago, but now you've reminded me how gorgeous it is, I shall have to read it again straight away!
The parts you quote are just exquisite, so beautifully written.
Thank you for reccing it!

What a wonderful story, I really enjoyed reading it. And that comes from me, who has not an ounce of romance in her blood (well, normally that is - sometimes the beast raises its head and needs to be subdued *cough*)

Oh I love this story - Lizzie is wonderful, isn't she? She's got such a way of showing how deeply together our lads should always be... *g*

Thanks for this fic-rec, I don't think I have read it before, so am off to do so now. Can't believe I missed that title, being a Laurie Lee fan an' all! Will report back once I have read it... *clicks open link, looks out of window at rainy day, sighs happily*

How will I ever read Cider with Rosie again! I will always be hoping for Cider with Bodie *G*

I really like Lizzie's little asides, such as the Uncle who can expertly balance his tea and ginger cake, just tiny things to pad out the story that so expertly help create the scene.

I love her turns of phrase as well… ‘and my prick - well that's got a mind of its own now and has taken to standing up and looking me in the eye whenever I think about you.’ That did make me giggle - love it! And the quotes you highlighted above are lovely.

S’great this fic rec - thanks for that and, of course, cheers!

I've always loved this story - it *is* sweet and it's different - can't put it into words why, or how, but I just feel it in my bones.

Thanks for the reminder.

I love Bird Watcher's, but this one remains my favorite of hers. There's kind of an innocent joy about the story and I find myself rooting for Bodie to believe in it happening to him. Thanks for the rec, it's always worth the reread!

I love Lizzie's story--the harvest sequence works fantastically well. But I suspect my favorite part is when Doyle says he 'christens the keep fit mats' in a way that the maker had never imagined. Always cracks me up.
