Christmas Prosfic Calendar - 3rd December

The Pros Christmas story that I read today was from Holiday Shrieks, published by Whatever You Do, Don't Press! in 1993, and it was Marley, by Jane Mailander. And there I was expecting it to be in either at the Circuit or Hatstand, where JM's other Pros writing is archived, and it isn't at all! Luckily it is available here on A03 - oh! And I see that there's also a prequel to it: Wave Goodbye Already!, which I am totally going to have to read now, because I really quite enjoyed Marley. It is, of course, and coincidentally, cos it just happened to be the other zine I'd pulled out expecting Christmas stories (but this was the only one!) liked yesterday's story also based on A Christmas Carol. Well, sort of. Marley's in it. *g*

Jane Mailander has written other Pros stories that I like alot (if you don't know her, look her up!) - and she's on A03 as Gardnerhill. Marley didn't disappoint me, except that it's gen rather than slash, so I had to insert my own (*g*). The lads are very fond of each other though, so that worked. And even though it's not quite the traditional Christmas Carol story in the way that M. Fae Glasgow's Screwged was, that really just made it more interesting. Definitely worth reading!

I'm not a big fan of Jane's, too often she pairs Bodie or Doyle with someone else. But since this one's gen, I suppose I could give it a try. *g*

I thought for a minute you mean (just) Jane (the Australian one) then, and I was going to say me too, but you do mean Mailander, don't you! I've never thought of her as doing that often (except for the Landbridge series), but maybe it's just been a long time since I read fic of hers. To be fair she does give Doyle a love interest in this, but it's very mild, and I'm sure it will come to nothing and he'll realise that it's Bodie for him... *g* When I think of Jane Mailander, I tend to think of Permanent Change, which I really like - and ohmigod! I've only just cottoned on that the "Miss O'Connor" of the long black locks, who thanks Doyle so profusely for what he did for her, and wants to think of some way to commemorate it is called Sinead, plays the guitar, and is clearly... that Sinead O'Connor! How funny - I've read that story many times, and never seen that before - today I just flicked over it to be sure it was the one I meant, and there it was! *vbg*

Anyway - Marley is harmless, even if it's not Bodie/Doyle. The emphasis is definitely on how they have to be together... *g*
