Today's rec: a fic from a prior year's Discovered in an LJ Christmas post, Let Nothing Ye Dismay by
byslantedlight and
erushi (who, sadly, has moved on from the fandom after creating some incredible fic).
Christmas and Pros aren't much of a natural pairing. Christmas brings to mind thoughts of joy and peace; while CI5 is a harsh, unforgiving world, whose denizens have to bring their A game always. Bodie and Doyle, backed by their boss, are at the top of that world - and very good at what they do.
There are, however, ways to bring those two worlds together. And this fic does it quite nicely.
This is a down and dirty story, falling post-op (and apparently just post Christmas), when a close call has Doyle questioning everything about his world, while chaos both major and small erupts around him. There's CI5, with an untidy op nearly gone deadly wrong, followed by a postponed trip taken at the absolute wrong time and in a completely foreign location. Bodie is spot on, but it's especially Doyle who rings true as he struggles to make sense of it all and demonstrates once again why, despite being temperamentally chalk and cheese, they work together perfectly well.
So, Seasons Greetings and enjoy: Let Nothing Ye Dismay.
