Thanks to everyone who took part in last week's discussion - there were some interesting thoughts and ideas, particularly on characterisation. I rather suspect that golden_bastet and I might instigate another discussion about characterisation one day soon... *g*

I don't mind doing it now and then, but I'm still not up for doing it every week - for a start I can't guarantee that I'll remember, and secondly I suspect people see my name on posts and just think "oh, now what...?" because I post so often about things. So it'd be nice if someone else could help out...

If you don't want to do it any more though, that's fine - I can ask if anyone else is interested, or we can just not have a reminder...

Characterisation - as you might have noticed, I have a bit of a thing for older lads at the moment *g* so a good discussion of who they are - and who they're not - would be inspiring! Thinking about them as we see them in the eps, and including what we know from canon is very helpful when projecting them thirty years into the future *g*

I actually just finished reading Angel in the Dark last night, and I've been mulling over whether to combine it with a characterisation post... and here, or at Safehouse (which has more members etc, and characterisation is a more general thing... hmmn!)

Actually, if you've another copy coming, I'll have to get you to check out one of the pages - in brackets it says something like "(insert Doyle's thoughts about...)" and was surely an author's note to herself. I'm wondering if the thoughts ever made it into print! *g*

Ah-ha - got it! Well, in the copy I have, anyway. It's at the bottom of page 122, like this:

Now 'maybe' and 'perhaps' are strange words, bubbling over with unformed potential, teaming with all of life's dreams, yet guaranteeing nothing in themselves. Buoyed by rising hope, Doyle tried to remember that as he settled in to wait. Patience, he told himself, patience.

Be grateful for what you've got, he told himself fiercely, s'what you said you wanted, the old partnership back with the added fillip of sex.

The next week passed uneventfully, and the next, and Doyle began to hope that things would really be alright.

There are 144 pages in the zine I have. And glancing through at it, and at the notes I scribbled when I borrowed it from you, they look completely different...
