I want to rec Lizzie's Join the Queue. It's a short but delightful story that is absolutely in the spirit of Christmas - well, in UK, anyway, which is where I live, and where the lads live. It makes me giggle every time I read it, and the ending is lovely. Bodie is in the queue at the Post Office, but why?

I hadn't seen that before, so thanks for the rec. I used to work for the PO and I can assure you it was just as bad for those of us on the other side of the counter at Christmas time. *sigh* Those were the days ;)

I'm sure it was just as bad!! Some friends of ours had a small village post office and that wasn't too bad as a rule, but of course all those tiny ones have disappeared now which adds to the problems at the big ones. The queue was quite long this morning but very patient. I got all my cards sent, anyway.

It's a nice story, though, and ties into Brit experience well!!

It is/was!! I planned on going to the post office today and then realised it fitted perfectly with the rec. But of course I missed the posting date for Australia, which is ridiculously early. I always expect it to be the same as US. Especially as Amazon and the Book Depository were still shipping parcels there till this weekend. I suppose it doesn't matter - as long as the greetings arrive before New Year...

I bought something on Ebay the other day, which came from Australia. Three days, between paying for it and it landing on my doorstep! Sometimes the postal service is bloody good... *g* (The "last posting date" is only the last "guaranteed" posting date, btw - and things that I've sent after that date have generally still got there before Christmas - well, unless I left it until Christmas Eve.. *g*)

Yes, and sometimes I think things go faster once the initial rush caused by 'last posting date' advice is over. margaret_r tells me Australia don't have last posting dates and are just told things could take longer at festive seasons. It's just that I feel vaguely embarrassed asking for stamps for Australia when I know perfectly well I should have organised myself the previous week! *g*

It was probably a post office day for a lot of people!! Last posting date for America, nicely mid-month for Europe, and one sort of hoped (in vain) that the queues wouldn't be too long. Anyway, all done, helped along by Bodie!!
