Zine Story Recs
Mar. 7th, 2007 09:29 pmIn no particular order, limiting myself to one rec per writer, and leaving lots of people (and stories) out (oh, and being a little discreet with real names):
1. "Spring-heeled Jack" - Georgina Kirrin - Motet for New Voices in B&D
(Gorgeous story. One of the best written in Pros, in my opinion.)
2. "Waiting for Doyle" - LMH - Motet for New Voices in B&D
(Death story. Sad, but...well, I like it. It's about real grief.)
3. "Fugitive" - [E. H.] - Motet for New Voices in B&D
(Based on the episode.)
4. "Groundhog Doyle" - Irene - Close Quarters
(Based on the movie. Doyle has to get it right....)
5. "Sharper Than a Serpent's Tooth" - [K.N] - British Takeaway
(It'll drive slash fans crazy--it drives me crazy--but...it is a terrific story exploring Bodie's family and background.)
6. "Heart of the Lion" - [P. D'O] - British Takeaway 3
(Gen, but a terrific plot, and...possibilities. *g*)
7. "Sanctuary" - [K.S.] - British Takeaway 4
(Short, but...just an excellent conversation between Bodie and Doyle, coming to an understanding.)
8. "Tyger, Tyger" [M.B.] - British Takeaway 5
(Um...I'm probably the only one who really likes this, but it hits a button for me. Third person pov on Bodie (and Doyle) through a girlfriend's eye. Pre-slash (to me).)
9. "Knife Edge" - HG - Unprofessional Conduct 7
(Short, and I suppose a minor story, given the author's other stories, but...I just really, really like this one.)
10."Jungle Fever" - Hestia - Unprofessional Conduct 8
(Oh, just very nice. Doyle has hallucinations while ill with a fever.)
11. "Yellow Brick Road" - Kate MacLean - novel
(My favorite of her stories. It's a long, hard, road, but they get there in the end. *g*)
12. "The Larton Chronicles" - Rhiannon - novel
(Everyone knows this, right?)
13. "Island Innocents" - Glen Fiddich - novel
(I don't think this one is online or on Proslib. It's...quirky. It'll make you want t go to the Isles of Scilly. *g*)

Aha - Island Innocents! I've been wondering about that one for ages - can you tell me any more? (And technical things, like publisher, and year of publication, and is it slash - it must be, right?!) and... and... Isles of Scilly, eh?
Thank you!

Date: 2007-03-08 05:57 pm (UTC)As for slash - I assume anything where the lads are implied to have more than a friendly, matey relationship is slash, explicit or not! And I love stories where the lads are on holiday, for some reason...

Ye gods, I totally want to go to the Isles of Scilly. This is gorgeous! I loved this! And I would never had kept my eyes open for it specially if you hadn't mentioned it here - so thank you!
