Preview for the next two weeks Recs&Review

An FYI summary for the next two weeks recs. Since most of our readers have a general knowledge of The Chief, I won’t go into detail for that.
The Sentinel aired 1996-1999 and consists of these main characters:


LtoR: Simon Banks, Jim Ellison, Blair Sandburg.

They will play a larger role in my rec for next week.

The Sentinel background:

Jim Ellison: A man with enhanced senses; hearing, sight, smell, taste and touch. Army Ranger, currently a detective with the Cascade, WA, USA police dept. The Sentinel. Jim’s nickname for Blair is "Chief". Portrayed by Richard Burgi. Handsome, all-American, rugged, tough guy.

Blair Sandburg: An anthropology doctoral candidate at university who "discovers" Jim and teaches him how to use the senses to his advantage. He is Jim's ride-a-long partner and helps ground him when he is using the heightened senses. The Guide. Blair nicknames Jim "Big Guy". Portrayed by Garett Maggart.

According to Blair, Sentinels have been in existence in most tribal cultures. Every Sentinel throughout time had a Guide. Someone who trained and grounded the Sentinel, kept them from overextending their gifts. Jim is the Sentinel, Blair is the Guide. In most The Sentinel slash fanfic,(but not the show) Jim and Blair are lovers. (Isn't he cute?)  

Simon Banks: Jim's boss, who is aware of Jim's senses, J&B's Sentinel/Guide partnership, but prefers a "don't ask, don't tell, I don't want to know" attitude (on the show) and in most fanfic. Portrayed by Bruce A. Young. In "An Encounter in Cascade", he and Cade have a casual, intimate relationship.

Thank you so much for this. I had read the two part story that you are due to rec early (RL gets in the way a lot!!) without any knowledge of The Sentinel. As a result, I didn't really enjoy the crossover. Having now read this, I'm going to have another read and see how this new knowledge helps.

Sorry, I meant to post some background info before now. Please give the stories another go if you have time. If you are reading next weeks story, the info will help out more there as well.

You packed a lot of explanation into very few words, and you picked some great photos. I always enjoy a cross more when I know at least the basics of the other fandom, and I'm sure others feel the same.
