I didn't mean to, I only picked it up look for something, but I spent all day yesterday re-reading Kate Maclean's gorgeous

(published by Gryphon Press if you've not yet read it!) and fell in love with it all over again, as I have every time I've re-read it. And now I'm scouting my shelves, wondering what to re-read next... maybe some Gil Hale? Tangled Web, which I'm reviewing here in a few weeks, for Reading Room? But that's aaaages away, and there's so much I could read before then... *g* And it occured to me that we've not had a what-are-you-reading-now post for ages!

So... What are you reading right now? *g* Is it going down well? Is it gorgeous or awful? Does it make your heart beat Bodie/Doyle...?

Shedloads :)

I've just finished re-reading Scars (Deveroux Dane). It's interesting, and I love parts of it - their separate interviews with Kate Ross, for example; and a conversation towards the end where Doyle is struggling with something and Bodie is ostensibly entirely at ease. The author gives the characters quite some depth, and I like the way the "progression" isn't a direct line. They keep lurching forward and back. Other aspects don't work for me - there's some odd pieces of dialogue, and policemen with guns. But the relationship side works really well.

A bunch of Zax and Facelift-related fiction, because I have *finally* seen Facelift! It's great, I love it! Yay, eighties production values! (Is it just me, or do the audience members change position every other shot of them?) Yay, scifi musicals! Yay, weird little touches! (Like that dummy in the cupboard whose eyelids flick open as they open the cupboard doors - eep). I see the guy behind it went on to do the Flashmob Operas on BBC Three - what can I say? I thought they were great, too.

I am trying to find time to read Angel in the Dark again, now it is online, but in the meantime, have enjoyed burrowing through all Thomas's shorter Pros fic on AO3 (when I can get the search engine to find it for me again, argh).

Before Scars, I was reading Two Lovers, so quite a change of pace there. And before that, a borrowed Maiden Wyoming story (A Rose In Any Other Shape) which had me giggling wildly and off to find more by the same author. I don't think most fandoms need that much "woke up female" fiction, although I can see it in the more fantasy/magic-y settings, and before I read this, I would have said Pros didn't need any at all. But Doyle's furious reaction is priceless. So I am hunting more by the same author. Which led me to buying Priority A3, and I have to say, I love her sweary lads! And I am awaiting Motet #3 eagerly too.

Just finished PRZed's Exile, which she's just put online. I loved the intense exploration of the problems of going undercover and the look at the 'troubles' in Ireland. The novel length format gave plenty of space and time for insights. A very sombre story but one that I enjoyed immensely.

Then I wandered off and read some SGA and some S&H and neither were very good so it serves me right. But they were a direct result of doing the crack van drive because I got lost in trying to filter for Pros only, and have ended up with the whole thing on my f'list for weeks and of course downloading anything that sounded even vaguely appealing.*g* And of course I've been re-reading the things I'm reccing on the van.

I read the crossover trilogy for last week's Reading Room and wasn't that thrilled. This morning there was a delightful drabble sequence by Moonlightmead and Maddalia to brighten Sunday.

Noel and Liam Bodie... Do you know, the Gallagher connection didn't even cross my mind? *g* I suppose that shows how out of touch I am with mainstream popular music. The lads were separated for a long time but I liked seeing how that affected them. However, if interaction is what you want, maybe this isn't the fic for you!

She has embedded the illustrations in the AO3 version and yes, they're gorgeous. I didn't recognise the Gallaghers... This is clearly part of the music scene I missed out on... *g*

It threw me that - the villains as Liam and Noel G!! Never the less, I actually like the story, but it isnt one I read often.

"Bodie and the Chief" by Anne Higgins. I like it. A younger Bodie with Cowley as his father, Alan Cade as his lover. As The Chief, never as Ray Doyle transformed into the Chief. I like The Chief and the character of Alan Cade. In this story, I like Bodie as he is independent, not joined to the hip of Ray Doyle and in love with an older man. Strong and impetuous, but vulnerable as well.

And "Catcalls" by Krisser. It's long and hot and sexy.

I like Anne Higgins' stuff - I can totally see Cowley as Bodie's father - although I must admit she does wander into schmaltz with them sometimes. I also love Cade stories!

I agree, she can be 'schmaltzy' and I don't always believe Cowley as Bodie's father. She makes it work somehow. As I said, I like Cade too, and this story works for me. A mutual attraction despite the age difference and despite Cade and Cowley's animosity towards each other.

Haven't quite started it yet, but I have "Falconhurst" pulled out as next in line to be deemed worthy to keep or sent to the "sale" pile. Going by my reaction to most of Jane's novels, I'm pretty sure I know where it's going to end up.

Well, I know it wasn't to me, because I am still waiting for my R&L 3 to arrive.

*lays special trap for postman*.

They are good, like some of the UnPros - I need to buy more of them.

Have you thought about putting a plea out on the Safehouse? Might nudge someone's memory?

Clearly I need to live, work, breathe and sleep Pros, because I actually thought you wanted to know what I was reading - as opposed to what Pros fic I was reading!!!
I can barely keep up with the Reading Room - my Kindle is emitting steam every night and I'm not getting any knitting done! Perhaps I shouldn't have taken on so many Big Bang authors as not only am I reading part stories, I can't talk about what I've read ... you'll have to wait until October! Suffice to say, you're all in for a number of treats!
