It doesn't look like Stories Where the Lads are Outed is a very popular Reading Room Theme, so unless it kicks off in the next couple of days I'll move on to the next idea in our list. But in the meantime, since there's no Reading Room review scheduled for today, maybe we could have a go at another game...?

It's St David's Day!

So I was wondering whether there are many Pros stories out there with a Welsh connection? Or whether Wales comes up in the eps at all? Is it at all possible to curl up with some Pros-Welsh(ish) fic? *g* (I know I set one there, but I'm sure there must be others!) Welsh characters in stories?

And for something else fun, [livejournal.com profile] moonlightmead has been playing with the lads for St David's Day.... *g*

I'd forgotten what day it was until I saw google this morning, LOL. Even the nouveau-Welsh neighbours don't put on a show. Only Owain Glyndwr day in September is nationalistic enough for them.

Welsh nationalists attempting a bit of domestic terrorism, presumably in default of other homegrown terrorists in those days, isn't too rare in Pros fic, iirc.

Don't they go to Wales in your 'Nice day to be on canal'? And there's one where they're using a remote cottage in ?Snowdonia for surveillance and are snowed in and one rescues the other from the snow? (this is more [livejournal.com profile] prosfinder than [livejournal.com profile] ci5hq...).

Was just poking fun at myself, vaguely remembering bits of plot but needing someone to tell me the title and author.

Love in a Cold Country - no, I know that one and that's not it. hmmm.

The mental image I have is injured Bodie, I think, being pulled out of a snowdrift near the cottage by Doyle. It must be h/c!

Irrelevantly, but inspired by your pic, happily the daffodils are blooming here. Some years on St David's day they are still some way off flowering.

Which may be why it used to be traditional to wear a leek.

No they used to wear leeks, but more so when observing St David's day outside Wales, apparently.

I assume daffodils took over because it is more socially acceptable to wear a daffodil on the lapel than a pungent vegetable. And maybe thanks to hothouse flower-growing.

The author I associate with fleeting mentions of Wales is Jane, actually. Isn't there a cycling holiday in Wales fic? And I think they have to find a safehouse in Wales.

Oooh! There's one in one of the Never Far Aparts. Involves Keller and a safe house in Wales, and Bodie disappears, and they have to rope Anson in to cast a military eye over Bodie's maps.

Heliophile has them in Aberdovey/Aberdyfi. Argh. I can't find it, but I'm sure it exists. .

Yes, that's the one! And - erm, that's the other one too!

Out of the Blue, by Heliophile (http://discoveredinalj.livejournal.com/206670.htm) (also on Proslib and hence on recent CDs)

A quick search on 'Welsh' and 'Wales' in the Jane stories got me the safe house one: they briefly end up in Abercrave at the end of Family Matters, hunting Baader-Meinhoff terrorists - and a bonus Welsh link of ending up (again, briefly) in a village with an unpronounceable name at the end of Mystery Trip.

At the risk of being obvious there's Anne Carr's "Doyle's Vacation in Wales"... *g*

And didn't you have a Welsh estate agent in a Halloween fic?

Am I going mad? My brain tells me very firmly that Mollycross was somewhere in East Anglia and Pwnco was in Cornwall or Devon. But then that's like witnesses getting things wrong...

I suppose Pwnco had to be in Wales, really, but my brain was quite definite... I'm glad I remembered Mollycross correctly! Both of those are on my longlist for [livejournal.com profile] crack_van so I'll be reading them again soon!

And another. Don't have it (shall have to remedy this) but apparently Bear Necessity (O Yardley) involves camping in Wales?
