Happy St David's Day story challenge!
Mar. 1st, 2012 11:50 amIt doesn't look like Stories Where the Lads are Outed is a very popular Reading Room Theme, so unless it kicks off in the next couple of days I'll move on to the next idea in our list. But in the meantime, since there's no Reading Room review scheduled for today, maybe we could have a go at another game...?
It's St David's Day!

So I was wondering whether there are many Pros stories out there with a Welsh connection? Or whether Wales comes up in the eps at all? Is it at all possible to curl up with some Pros-Welsh(ish) fic? *g* (I know I set one there, but I'm sure there must be others!) Welsh characters in stories?
And for something else fun,
moonlightmead has been playing with the lads for St David's Day.... *g*

Date: 2012-03-01 12:17 pm (UTC)Welsh nationalists attempting a bit of domestic terrorism, presumably in default of other homegrown terrorists in those days, isn't too rare in Pros fic, iirc.
Don't they go to Wales in your 'Nice day to be on canal'? And there's one where they're using a remote cottage in ?Snowdonia for surveillance and are snowed in and one rescues the other from the snow? (this is more

Date: 2012-03-01 12:28 pm (UTC)Erm - not really - we've been doing storylists here for ages (http://ci5hq.livejournal.com/?skip=20&tag=storylists) - since 2006 according to the taglist...
Prosfinder is about finding single stories that you can't quite remember... although I've noticed a few people asking there for stories along a theme lately, and wondered why. I did wonder about pointing them over here, but didn't in the end... People have pointed them here (and to the Hatstand) on previous occasions when it's arisen.
I'd forgotten Nice Day to be on the Canal was in Wales... And... the other one maybe sounds like Jojo's fic - I'll go and check when I've got time...

Date: 2012-03-01 12:42 pm (UTC)Turns out it's not the story that I'm (you're? *g*) thinking of though - Love in a Cold Country (http://www.thecircuitarchive.com/tca/archive/17/lovein.html) is set near Penrith, in Cumbria... Was that the one you were thinking of, d'you reckon?

Date: 2012-03-01 12:47 pm (UTC)The mental image I have is injured Bodie, I think, being pulled out of a snowdrift near the cottage by Doyle. It must be h/c!

Date: 2012-03-01 12:58 pm (UTC)I assume daffodils took over because it is more socially acceptable to wear a daffodil on the lapel than a pungent vegetable. And maybe thanks to hothouse flower-growing.

Date: 2012-03-01 12:56 pm (UTC)Oooh! There's one in one of the Never Far Aparts. Involves Keller and a safe house in Wales, and Bodie disappears, and they have to rope Anson in to cast a military eye over Bodie's maps.
Heliophile has them in Aberdovey/Aberdyfi. Argh. I can't find it, but I'm sure it exists. .

Date: 2012-03-01 04:30 pm (UTC)Out of the Blue, by Heliophile (http://discoveredinalj.livejournal.com/206670.htm) (also on Proslib and hence on recent CDs)
A quick search on 'Welsh' and 'Wales' in the Jane stories got me the safe house one: they briefly end up in Abercrave at the end of Family Matters, hunting Baader-Meinhoff terrorists - and a bonus Welsh link of ending up (again, briefly) in a village with an unpronounceable name at the end of Mystery Trip.

Date: 2012-03-01 04:50 pm (UTC)Great minds think alike re the CD too - I did a search this morning that came up with quite a few stories, including some Jane ones, but I didn't have time to check them all, so I ended up closing the window without doing anything...
You know I'll love you forever if you post links for me next time, like you did for Out of the Blue... *g*
