Beta Central
Jan. 19th, 2012 10:00 amWell, it all seems to be going swimmingly so far - and a huge thank you to
merentha13 for being our brave first author, because on top of having her story to worry about, she had the rest of us all working out the best way of doing things on her - and she handled it with grace and good cheer, which made for the perfect beginning!
She's also hoping to post a revised version before Monday, so keep an eye out for that... *g*
There've also been a couple of good suggestions for Beta Central itself, some of which people picked up on as we were going through, such as using new comments for new points, to help authors address each one individually, and to help other people see what's been mentioned so far.
One very good point made was that issues might arise which create more debate/disagreement than others, and that it might be awkward for an author if these are prolonged in their comments. It will probably also mean that it's an interesting enough issue to deserve its own post, so if something like that does come up - or even if someone just mentions something you'd like to know, or that might be an interesting/good discussion ("What do people mean by point of view anyway?" or "How do you choose between a comma and a semi-colon?" or "I never know where to put punctuation in dialogue, help?" or anything, really!) then please either mention you'd like a post about it, and I will scurry to do your bidding, or else do post about it yourself - I think that kind of Beta Central post could be completely unscheduled, and just posted when it's interesting... (The only thing I'd suggest is not having too many different questions going/"active" at the same time).
Speaking of the same time - here's the current (short but sweet) schedule of stories to be posted for Beta Central. Please do comment below if you'd like to add your story to the list. It might be that we have a few empty weeks, but that's okay, we can all get our breaths back - hopefully though, people will volunteer often enough that things keep turning over nicely... *g*

Date: 2012-01-19 01:34 pm (UTC)It definitely sounds like an interesting discussion, and I'd like to hear what other people think, so we could perhaps kick off with it tomorrow...

For example: I'm not sure how to punctuate the case where I have a long list of thoughts or items to relate, very few capital letters, almost no verbs, a plethora of commas, a few semi-colons, no full-stops, no idea of how to properly use any of them and a great fear of doing it wrong! (Should this overly long sentence be done with commas, or can a semi-colon be used to separate each item in a long list? I know a few full-stops would probably be best!)
