Ooooh - that'll teach me to get all relaxed about my
discoveredinalj having passed without total disaster after all... Luckily
nypagan gave us two stories yesterday, to keep us going. And me? I shall ask for a little Christmas...
Benevolence by Brenda K
(ETA - I've now included the actual link - sorry to anyone who couldn't get in, mea culpa)
Cowley's listening through walls, our lads are being charitable and chatty at the same time...
"So what did you do at Christmas when you were a kid, then?" Doyle asked.
"Ate too much. Got bored. Telly. Traditional English Christmas. You?"
"Same."
Silence. Cowley tried to picture the two of them in there, busily sorting the clothes.
"Better now, though," Doyle said. "Right?"
"Right. How about...."
"Mmmm. Nice."
Doyle sounded breathless, Cowley decided. What was nice?
...and Kate Ross has legs. *g*

Date: 2011-12-23 09:20 am (UTC)I also don't have a problem with the changes, I like the new style, and I suspect I'm not the only one. My lj is incredibly fast and efficient at the moment. But people who complain tend to be louder, and they certainly are in this case, and so I suspect the changes will be rolled back, which I'll be sorry about.
I don't understand though - your lj seems to be set in S2, and if you enable commenting in your own style, then surely you won't see the new comment style? I hope that can work for you anyway, I'm sorry you're getting a headache...

Date: 2011-12-23 09:45 am (UTC)It's about 3 clicks away (okay, 4 *g*), so doesn't take much time to investigate at all - quicker than replying to me here, I'd think! *g* Go to Profile - Settings (My account settings) - click the Display tab - scroll down to Other Journals and click the box View all journals and communities in my own style.
I've been tempted to do it before now for my own lj, because I can't stand some of the styles other people choose for their ljs (such tiny print! such colours! skinny columns! such... messiness of style! *g*), but I mostly read via my friends page (what I mean by my flist) anyway, so I never bothered with it... Oh no, I have! Occasionally when I've had real problems reading an lj cos of their style, I've clicked to View in My Style via the nav bar - that's just for one lj at a time though, I think)
Anyway - sounds like you'll be happier with the box clicked, so... *g*

Date: 2011-12-23 10:02 am (UTC)With the best will in the world, I can't imagine how it'd ever be possible to create a style that is going to suit everyone, including people suffering from various impairments. I've always found it awkward to scroll through the text-list of my icons for instance, having to really squint at it, but the previous method they had of previewing your pic icons was slow and clunky, so I didn't use that either.
Ideally, rather than "roll back" to a system that did need improvements, they'll find a way to give people a better choice in whether they use it or not (it's not ideal to have to view everything in your own style, I agree - if they could split that into... hang on a minute... *thinks*
If you go to My Account again, and then "Journal Style", and then Customise Your Theme (top right, beside the icon that shows the theme you're currently using) - Scroll down to "Disable customized comment pages for your journal" Can you see that, for your theme (you should be able to, I think)? If so, change the drop-down choice to "No" (mine is set to Yes, so that I can use the new comment style). That might just affect the comment settings, and you can undo the View in Own Style option, which is affects a whole journal...

Date: 2011-12-23 09:31 pm (UTC)Thank you so much for trying to sort out my style! I investigated this evening and the comment choice is already set at 'no'. As it's usually in comment mode that I see other people's journals I'm not sure whether it will help or not, yet.But thank you anyway, and I will give it a try.
I do know it is screwing up the comment boxes depending on other people's styles. And bouncing me all over the place when I try to post a comment. And I can no longer comment from my browser when I've read a story I downloaded for reading at leisure.
I wonder why you have problems with the old icon system? I always name my icons with type:name e.g. pros_xmassnow, pros_xmasbaubles. Then all the Pros icons appear together in the list (which is alphabetised) and it's easy to navigate. But now they all just appear, if not exactly at random, in order of uploading which is next door to random for that mnay icons. And the last one used certainly doesn't move to the top on mine.
At least customising things enables me to use my icons again!
