The Lads Go Camping - a storylist?

I've been promised rain this afternoon, and if it doesn't come I'm going to be cross, cos I was going to cycle in today and I was all geared up and ready to go... right up until I was about to turn the car radio off and head for my bike, only to hear "...not a very pleasant afternoon anywhere today... heavy rain this afternoon..." So I drove off again, through the lovely morning, in my not-rain-shoes, when I have to go into town after work... grrr...

All of which means that it's an even better day to celebrate siskiou's new tent and a summer's worth of potential camping, right? Because like a bank holiday, camping over here is almost always done in the rain... *g*

The other day, siskiou was asking for stories featuring the lads camping, and I could think of the discoveredinalj challenge we had last year, and Miriam Heddy's Joy of Camping, and she could think of one where Bodie gets charged by a bull and a goat eats their picnic, and another where the weather is miserable, and Doyle is annoyed and grouchy, and Bodie has tampered with the car...

Please help us put together a storylist where the lads go camping! This is what we've got so far...

I did indeed (and in a caravan somewhere else too - eep, how bad is it I can't remember my own fic? I just remember thinking that's twice I've put them in a caravan now... Oh, the one where Doyle's gone missing, and Bodie finds him in a caravan by the seaside... These Layers of Charnel Air! *g*), but I'm thinking caravanning doesn't count... not quite the same pitter-patter of drops on canvas, and fluttering of cloth and danger of tent pegs all around... *g* That said, I bet we could do a caravan one too - well, there are those two of mine, and the fab Caravans by... actually, was it Baravan?! Though they weren't in a caravan themselves... *g* And putting them in a caravan seems a very M.Fae Glasgow thing to do too, so surely...?

There is a long one by O Yardley but not among the online or Proslib collection that I can see. I think it's Bear Necessities in the Printed Circuits collection, but it's been a *long* time since I borrowed that.

Ah, I found that in the Printed Circuits One (http://www.palelyloitering.com/zines/printedcircuits1.html) zine and started re-reading last night to check - I only just got as far as them mentioning a tent before I fell asleep! Morning-coffee reading, I think... *g* Thanks!

I took a peek at a couple of the stories, and found the "drunk"
one on the list "The Joy of Camping".

I wish I could remember the one with the goat, and I'm starting to think that maybe is wasn't actually camping, but just a picnic. IIRC, Doyle was showing Bodie this village where he used to stay with relatives, and everything had changed.
They were at a small lake/pond...

Oh, the goat story is definitely a picnic rather than camping! Sorry - I knew that in my post and I should have said, but I was still hoping someone might remember the title and let us know, cos I couldn't!

I'm surprised we've not got more though, surely there must be more... there are fics when they're out on practice manoeuvres, and I bet they have to camp sometimes then... *ponders harder*...

They're in a sleeping bag in Sebastian's Army Games but I can't remember where the sleeping bag actually is....and I've just had another thought, I'm sure there are a couple of jungle/merc stories where they're in a tent, (e.g. Meg Lewtan's Out of the Jungle?) but it's not exactly holiday-type camping...

I think Army Games and their sleeping bags was something I was thinking of, but they're definitely not in a tent - I think they're under a shelter that's divided into stalls, iirc...

Good point about the merc stories and tents, and them not being holiday-type camping... Though if they're in a tent together it might still count? And there has to be something about them in the tent together rather than it just being part of the setting? That might count, perhaps... though remembering/separating those out might be quite the task!

I'm sure I remember one where they're older lads, and Bodie's setting out a tent because he's going camping or summat, and they're attacked by someone in the garden... It's relatively recent... I thought it was Verlaine, or perhaps Callisto, but... Does anyone else remember this one?
