First Week Back Fic Challenge!
Jan. 10th, 2011 02:25 pmI suspect it's the first full week back at work for lots of people, after the general Christmas/New Year bacchanalia, and I was thinking that it'd be nice to have lots of lads over the next five days to help us get through it. So I was wondering...
What are your five favourite Pros-y cheer-up fics? The ones that leave you all happy and smiling after you've read them? (Or, for choice-wimps like me, what are five of your favourite Pros-y cheer-up fics..?) Long or short, any kind of story at all - but the ones that leave you with a grin in your bones?
To start off, mine might be... Hmmn......
1) From Here to Eternity by Ginny and Hestia - how much do I love this fic? It makes me giggle! The dog! The hole in the road and the puzzled bloke and eternally grumpy Doyle, and...ahhh, the ending...! *g*
2) Professional Dreamer by Pam Rose - just working out what's going on makes me smile every time...
3) In Hot Water: An Idyll by J.M. - Bodie-who-loves-animal-watching, and Doyle-who-loves-Bodie-who-loves-Doyle... and the way they're bashed around in the van together en route... *g*
4) Gift of the Moggy - another one that makes me giggle, even though I'm not usually big on pets... but... A wide yawn, full of good sharp mouse-vertebrae-snapping teeth. A more challenging target than the big drinking bowl.... Hee. *g*
5) The Larton Chronicles - well, you knew I couldn't miss them off my happy-making list, right? Just soooo right, so our AU lads, so witty and full of love and certainty and the job of B/D being together... "All them planes, off to exotic places," Jack said, "Where's that one off to, girl?" - "Glasgow," Agnes said, shortly. (sorry, paraphrased, but what gorgeous understated hee!)
So that's me. Would anyone else suggest us some Prosfic to cheer us through this second week in January? Either here, or better still in a new post so that we have lots of lads popping up in our flists too... *g*

Date: 2011-01-10 06:33 pm (UTC)The one with the kids trick-or-treating with a ferret in a bag? Not one that I've read, I'm sure I'd remember it!
Yeay happy fic!

Date: 2011-01-10 06:46 pm (UTC)Tricks or Treats by Callisto, now I remember! Makes me laugh out loud, this one - it's the relish with which the kids are into their trick-or-treating.
Oh bother, I've given away one of it's more charming touches... *bg*

Date: 2011-01-10 03:38 pm (UTC)I've been a bit down in the dumps lately, for various reasons, and last night I turned to the lads (or 'lads-in-fic', I should say) to try and snap myself out of it. What did I choose to read? You've probably guessed - yep, it was Larton. My ultimate feel-good fic...
It's been quite a while since my last reading, and it felt so good to go back to it. Its cheer-up properties are already working, I think.
My other feel-good fic is 'A Birdwatcher's Guide to Cornish Ghosts'. Larton got the nod over it this time though as it's only a few months since I last read it.
When Larton's done I think I might turn to O Yardley's 'Kind Hearts'. It's ages since I've read that one, and it definitely has the feel-good factor too.

Date: 2011-01-10 06:35 pm (UTC)My five favourite Pros-y cheer-up fics...
Date: 2011-01-10 05:41 pm (UTC)2. A Little Faith and Orange Juice by Callisto. - The one where Doyle's all worried, and Bodie is hurting.
3. A Momentary Aberration by LH. - This is one of the most snuggly fics I know.
4. Learning To Fly by LilyK. - I love this text so much, I wanna frame it if I could.
5. Well Matched at Christmas by PFL. - The one where Bodie should wear a bell and clean up the country.
Bonus: Learning to Trust, by Liriel. (don't know the link, sorry) - Handcuffs and blindfold, what more can a fangirl ask for?
These always put a smile on my face, and makes me go all tingly inside. :D

Date: 2011-01-10 08:51 pm (UTC)This text always makes me feel really good, and I can read it again and again. You've really written one epic text, according to me. There are so many emotions, both in the text, and what I feel when I read it. I can only hope I'll be able to write like that someday. :)

Date: 2011-01-14 11:44 am (UTC)Just arrived back into the country after 5 weeks away overseas to discover this thread and lots of fantastic stories to read/revisit.
Here are my top 5 cheer-up Pros stories (I'll list the stories which have not already been mentioned):
1. Fire Held High and Away (http://www.thecircuitarchive.com/tca/archive/9/fireheld.html) by Mirriam Heddy
A clueless Bodie, a determined Doyle, and a lovely story of how the lads slowly get together. An absolute joy to read.
2. A Study in Missing (http://community.livejournal.com/the_safehouse/599340.html) by Erushi
I really like Erushi's work due to her distinctive style of writing. This is one of my favourites from her impressive list of Pros stories.
3. Raymond's Joy (http://archiveofourown.org/works/112897) by The Hag
Boxing Day has already been mentioned previously, so I am choosing another story from The Hag. It was down to either "Poetry to Project Us" or "Raymond's Joy" and in the end I chose "Raymond's Joy" because it’s a wonderful story of the lads' relationship from first getting together to being committed to each other.
4. No Unicorns (http://hatstand.slashcity.net/hg/unicorns.html) by HG and Sebastian
An epistolary story where Doyle is in hospital recovering from an injury (the shooting in DIAG?) and corresponding with Bodie who is away in the country at another op. How much the lads mean to each other and the nature of their relationship are slowly revealed.
5. Where I Can Cross Over (http://www.gilhalefic.com/whereicancrossover/) by Gil Hale
A pre-slash (gen) story and one of the very first Pros stories I read when I joined the fandom. A well-written partnership story of what Bodie will do for Doyle.

Date: 2011-01-21 09:02 am (UTC)Sebastian and the Hag almost always work for me too - and I'm another fan of Erushi's writing! I can't remember if it's been mentioned up above, but The Joy of Camping is probably my favourite Miriam Heddy fic, especially for cheering-up... I love Bodie's little pointer... *g*
