I know it's not the 16th of December any more, but I was rubbish and missed my day to rec, so I thought we could have two Christmas day Pros recs instead...

Title: Down to the Waterline
Author: Sebastian
Link to story or zine/ProsLib info: At the Author's website
Pairing:B/D
Further story information found at [livejournal.com profile] prosficspoilers

I love this little fic - Sebastian often has a gorgeous melancholy to her stories that tugs at your heartstrings... But I do somehow always feel that things are going to be alright - no matter what the difficulties, our lads will come through. They're emotional versions of the eps perhaps - gritty and pulling no punches about the way people work, but in the end... well, in the end it's the lads who're down by the waterfront, and it's Christmas, after all... *g*

I laughed out loud when I read the title... but I always love to reread a story by Sebastian, so I'm really glad you made this post ;-). You said everything about the story: gritty, melancholic, but they will come through - she is such a great great writer....

Uh... seems to be a misunderstanding - I didn't laugh about Sebastian's title, but your's: "Christmas Reading Room December 16th", when I read it on the 25th ;-). It was funny, but I was so glad you posted it!

Sebastian writes brilliantly vivid stories but this one didn't leave me with any Christmas cheer. *g*

I'm not left with your confident optimism that things will be alright because I'm not sure how they can build a strong relationship when Doyle seems to abuse the frienship and Bodie is almost subservient.

Although it is a bleak story it is well worth the read. Thanks for the rec.

Thanks for the rec, I enjoy Sebastian's style a lot! I'm sucker for that underlying streak of melancholy you mentioned, but I also love the tenderness and sweetness she often displays in her stories.

Although with this particular story I have the feeling there's something missing... like she didn't really know how to end it properly.
