The Reading Room Christmas Rec Challenge

Just a reminder that we'd still like people to rec Christmasy/Wintery/Decembery-type fics for the Reading Room Advent Calendar Challenge - posts can be as simple as "I like this story, and here's the link..." or they can be as detailled and in depth as you fancy, or they can come accompanied by pictures or whatever else comes to mind...

The stories are going to be a surprise, but the reccers so far are listed below, with the dates they're going to post - if you'd like to join in and rec a Christmas/Winter/December Pros Story for our Advent calendar, then please let me know what date you'd like below. You don't need to specify a story, but if you'd like to you can email me via my addy on the user info page, and I'll let you know if the one you fancy has already been baggsed by someone (I only know that if they've told me, though! *g*)

And if anyone who's already chosen a date would like to choose another one, then do feel free... *g*

I have one that I'd love to rec (though I'd have to search for the title once again), but how do we know what's already going to be taken by others?
It's probably really easy, and I just missed it somehow.

I was wondering the same thing for the ones that don't tell you the story.

Is the comm open to non-members? If so, and *only* if you'd like, I could send a note to Proslib for possible volunteers.

Yes, posting access to the comm was made as open as possible, so that anyone could play - except that it's a livejournal rule that you need to have an lj to post to lj... But I'm always happy to post on non-lj-er's behalf (or you're welcome to yourself, for that matter).

And yes please, please do ask via ProsLib if people would like to join in - especially because the Newsletter doesn't recognise this as a challenge, and so the call-out might have been missed by non-members! (Actually if you'd like to mention Discovered in the Fairylights too, that'd be ace - again, the challenge call out reminders I've posted aren't noted very obviously on the newsletter, which is where I think various non-members perhaps look out for things...)

Unfortunately, when people don't tell me what story they'd like to rec, I can't make contingency plans for gazzumping, so it will be a bit of a risk - if you choose one, and someone posts about it first, then that's kind of luck of the draw... The only other thing to do would have been post a list of all the stories, of course, but then half the fun is the surprise of not knowing what story we're going to be reminded of...

OK - could I ask you to send me an announcement for Proslib? You have it all at your fingertips and I'm a bit hassled with things the next few days and it will save me having to think about wording etc.

Excellent - would you like to choose a day?!

The flaw to this whole thing is that we won't always know what stories are going to be recced by the people before us... Some people have told me what they'd like to rec (via email, please! *g*) and when they do that I can let them know whether someone else who's told me has already chosen it. But some people haven't told me (or don't know themselves yet!) and if they happen to post before you, then it might be that they gazzump you... It was either that or post a list of all the stories though, and that would have taken away half the fun-surprise of seeing the stories pop up in your flist each day...

So no, you didn't miss it - sorry! The one thing about it, is that I figured there are so many fun Christmas stories in Pros, that hopefully it won't be too hard for people to think up an alternative, even at short notice...

Oh excellent, we can at least spread the other days out between us then, so people don't get extra sick of my voice... *g* I think there's a couple of other people who'll take another day each too, and Frances is going to post it to ProsLib, so maybe we'll get another taker or two there... It's looking good so far though... and thank you!

Is there a preference to where the Xmas fics are from (ie online, on the Pros CD, or in a zine)?

I am thinking of reccing a Christmas story from a PROS zine, so the story will not be available online. This would means I would be depriving most people from reading the story :(

I do have other Christmas stories that I could recc that are available online, so if people prefer to have online stories recced I am quite flexible !

No, choose fics from anywhere you like, zines, paper circuit, anywhere. If we don't rec and pass those stories around, then they'll die - stories need to be known and read! Pleeeeease rec your zine story! *g* People might not own zines themselves, but stories can be loaned, bought second hand etc - and you'll be opening up a new world to the people who haven't yet discoverd that part of Pros history and fandom, just imagine how many new stories they'll be able to go out and look for!

And if it qualifies (if it's out of print) there's always loiteringpalely too... *g*
