The Reading Room
Mar. 9th, 2010 10:33 pmIt was great that
potztausend created her new lj just in time to post her rec for “In Case of Emergency, Break Rules” by Heliophile. Thank you!
By another happy chance, today is
heliophile_oxon’s birthday:
Happy birthday and many happy returns of the day! to a lovely person and writer of superb (vivid, entertaining, witty, original...) fic.
I’ve been more absent than usual from the Reading Room discussion this week having been away and offline. But it was a fab weekend, spent with lovely Pros-y people, and included a Reading Room live! session.
Although several fics were recced and read in advance, in the event we didn’t discuss those fics very much, but several pressing issues like: when to use a beta; Britspeak in fic; whether sex scenes have become more explicit in recent years (nah!); and whether fic can be classed as slash if it doesn’t contain any sexual goings-on as such.
I would love to take the Reading Room on the road again. Any ideas for a real-life get together?
Still, the beauty of the Reading Room is that it is a virtual space, where we can come together to discuss fic without the tyranny of distance getting in the way.
The recs for the next few weeks are:

Date: 2010-03-09 11:19 pm (UTC)in lights*vbg* on the Reading Room list just in time for my birthday was one of the nicest things ever! And it's extremely interesting to see what doesn't work for some people just as much as what does.Looking forward immensely to the recs coming up!
