The Reading Room - August recess and the new term

This week’s exercise in an author talking about her own fic has been an outstanding success. jj_minerva deserves our appreciation for having the courage to open her writing, and inevitably her motivations, to scrutiny. The discussion has been even more profound and wide ranging than usual. Please, Minerva, accept a large virtual bouquet and a deluxe virtual box of chocolates on behalf of The Reading Room.

I hope we can do this again sometime.

Please? It needs authors to volunteer, or friends of authors to persuade them to be volunteered.

Now, I’ve washed and put away all the cups and saucers and plates and glasses, emptied the fridge and turned off the electricity to the tea urn. So it’s time to lock the door, and wish everyone who is going on holiday in August a relaxing time, and wish everyone who is getting to down to their work a productive time, and to all, the opportunity to read lots of Pros fic.

Just wanted to say it was a pleasure to discuss my fic and the writing process with everyone. Thank you.

I'd encourage other writers to do the same, offer up a story and talk about how it came about etc. Not only was it interesting to hear what readers had to say, but it made me think about how I write and why.

I would like to rec Gravity’s Angel (Anonymous) on 10 September.
The problem is that it's only on the Proslib CD.
I think most of us own the CD!? - but I've checked with Frances from Proslib if it's OK to send the story per email to those who have no access to the Proslib CD.

What do you say?

Hi, sorry about the delay in replying.

I agree, I'm sure most of us do own the CD. Did Frances say it was okay to email the story? If so, I'm happy to add a note about this to the schedule. Maybe it will encourage anyone who doesn't have it to buy the CD (it took me ages, since there was so much to read online, and indeed I have hardly ever used it, but it is still nice to have).

I've found some good stories on the CD. Do you know that there is a kind of short description for all stories? I can tell you in the evening where you can find it if you are interested.

Just yesterday was looking at the Hatstand and Circuit Archive and as usual feeling overwhelmed - I want to read a lot more fic this autumn/winter, but find it difficult to know where to start. Maybe one fic from a different letter of the alphabet, or a different author, each day?

And why do I keep writing the stuff when there is already more out there than I am able to read? Shouldn't I be content to read the excellent fic already written and archived? (sorry not looking for an answer, that is just an existential rant).
