Wow, what a downer. And to make matters worse, the reader isn't even given any idea as to why they're in the situation they're in, or if they have any plans to fix it. At least, I couldn't figure any of that out.

It reads as if it's the middle of something, doesn't it - and it rather reminds me of Castalia's Snowman with a Dark Coat. It wasn't cheerful, but it brought stories to my head, especially about how it might be gorgeously resolved. There's so clearly something still between them, that I don't at all believe as Bodie thinks at the end, that it's all over... *g*

I really love Snowman with a Dark Coat. It's dark, too, but somehow I get more of a feeling of hope with that story. Maybe because, for me, Bodie is often the one who's the unknown, which, by the end of the story, we know exactly what he's thinking. It's often a fine line, finding a reason for hope. I didn't find that line with this story.

Yeah, I think this is almost a scene from a story like that, rather than being the whole story - and of course everyone's imaginations go in different directions...
