Consequences of a Different Kind

Bodie was growing increasingly uncomfortable under Madge's assessing gaze. Doyle was a bit worried someone might notice his perm was starting to grow out. They met in a dark alley, Doyle carrying the body of McAllister not knowing if he was dead or only unconscious, while Bodie whistled in the night.

Bodie said "Stick it in!"

Doyle said "I think it should hang a little more to the left."

The consequence was a contempt for the ordinary decencies of family life that reminds one of the worst excesses of the French Revolution (or so Lady Bracknell complained next time she met the Minister). But it was written up in Cowley's files as an extracurricular entanglement pending further maneuvers.
