Yeah, this isn't easy, but it's fun!
Unforgettable phrase, "the odd purity of his violence".

Short(ish) review:
This story, for me, was one of the most original and most believable on the entire proslib CD, and yet I've never heard anyone else even mention it, which in my book makes it a definite case for reccing.

It's a fairly simply premise: Bodie's illegitimate son, Matt, a rather directionless wannabe musician, discovers who his father is just in time to attend Bodie's funeral. The fic basically follows him learning who and what his father was, and what that means to him--getting to know Doyle in the process.

There are a number of things that the fic does supremely right. The most remarkable for me was the fact that it doesn't feel like a fic--it feels like the autobiographical ramblings of a young man during a period of immense personal change. It has a flawless sense of time and place--London in 1995, the height of the Britpop era. Matt's characterisation is believable and Doyle's reactions to him are at times incredibly poignant.

This is a gen fic in what I consider the true sense of the word--you don't know if Bodie and Doyle were together and it doesn't matter, because the love was there and the rest is immaterial. And even though it's a Bodie-less fic you never feel his absence from the narrative, which is probably the highest praise I can give as a confirmed Bodie fangirl.
